  • A chase ensues between Sam's Camero and the "police car", and they wind up at a refinery/power plant, where Sam & Mikaela (Megan Fox) see their yellow car turn into the "Bumblebee" (Transformer) robot for the first time.
  • Those scenes were shot at the AES power plant, located on the east side of N. Harbor Drive in Redondo Beach , CA., between Beryl Street (on the south) and Herondo Street (on the north).

That's right across the street (east of) the Redondo Beach Marina, and about a mile north of the Redondo Beach Pier (a frequent filming location for "The O.C.") The plant has also been seen in the TV show "24" and in other films such as "Batman".

Later, when they are driving through a tunnel, Mikaela wonders aloud why, if the Transformer
robot is so powerful, does it keep turning into a junky-looking old car. Insulted, the "car"
puts them out on the road, does a sideways wheelie through the tunnel, and reappears
as a brand new sports Camero - much to the appreciation of Sam & Mikaela.

This tunnel scene was shot in the 2nd Street tunnel, in downtown Los Angeles.
The tunnel is
where 2nd Street runs between Hill & Figueroa Streets.

(This same tunnel has been seen in a number of other movies, including
"The Terminator", "Blade Runner", "Independence Day" and "Godzilla".)

  • The scene where Sam & Mikaela watch meteors crash to the earth (containing Transformers, of course) was shot on location at The Griffith Observatory, which is located atop Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, at 2800 Observatory Road, off N. Vermont Avenue.

The same Observatory is seen in a later scene where the Transformers sit perched on the domed building. (No doubt, there was some model use at work here...)

Griffith Observatory has been seen in many movies, including "Nancy Drew", "The Terminator", "The Rocketeer" and "Rebel Without a Cause."

Meteors are also seen crashing into Dodger Stadium. That ballpark is located at 1000 Elysian Park Ave, just north of downtown Los Angeles.

Sam & Mikaela are taken into custody by threatening agents from the secret Sector-7 agency, but they are rescued by the giant Transformers, who rip the top off the agents' SUV.

Mikaela then humiliates the lead agent by forcing him to strip to his underwear.

Eventually, back-up forces arrive, prompting a street race between the Transformers and government helicopters.

  • That rescue scene (as you can see from the photos) took place next to a bridge and a railroad track.
    That bridge is actually a
railroad trestle, which spans the Dominguez Channel, just north of
    Terminal Island
. You'll find that bridge where Henry Ford Avenue meets
    Pier A Way,
in a rough stretch of industrial land
    between Wilmington and Long Beach.
