Seeing Stars: Where the Stars Play

1253 N. Vine Street (at Fountain),
Hollywood, CA. / (323) 871-8612

One very hot Hollywood spot at the moment is El Floridita, a Cuban restaurant named after an original 1820 club in Havana. Most days, it becomes a salsa dance club at night, and the small dance floor at El Floridita has been attracting celebrity customers such as Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall and Jack Nicholson. The stars just can't get enough of the live salsa music (from 9 PM until 1 AM), especially on Mondays when they can dance to the music of Johnny Polanco and his orchestra.

Roselyn Sanchez, who played 'Lili' on TV's "Fame L.A." and stars in "Rush"Hour"2", said she goes out dancing once a week. Sharon Stone, Salma Hayek and Bette Midler are also big salsa fans. Comedian Paul Rodgriguez and Jimmy Smits, have also been big fans (Paul was a regular on Friday nights) - so much so that the two friends have opened their own salsa club: the Conga Room, on Wilshire Blvd.)

It's a relatively small place, located in a nondescript minimall just south of Sunset and Vine, near the Cinerama Dome. $8 cover (waived with dinner) - and prices are moderate.  Over 21. Open daily. (Phone for entertainment/dance schedule.)

Getting there: From Hollywood & Vine, just drive south on Vine (five blocks) to Fountain Ave. The restaurant is located in the small center at the southwest corner of Vine & Fountain.
