The
Actual Southern California Locations
where the 2000 classic "Memento"
was filmed.
Leonard "wakes up"
running in a trailer park. At first,
he thinks he's chasing a guy, but soon
realizes that the guy has a gun, and is chasing him! He manages to
escape in his car.
Later, we see that he had been
driving, when Dodd recognized
Jimmy's car, pulled him over, and tried to shoot him.
This trailer park scene was
shot at the Monte Vista mobile home park,
at
8100 Foothill Blvd, in Sunland, CA.
(It's right across the street from the tattoo parlor.)
When we see Leonard drive into
the trailer park - while trying to escape Dodd - and when we see
him flee the park (see the photo below), the camera is looking north out
onto 8127 Foothill Blvd.
Wracked with painful memories of his dead
wife, Leonard goes to an empty place and
burns
the mementos he had kept to remind him of her, including her favorite book
and a teddy bear.
They filmed this scene at the
same Fletcher Oil Refinery, in Carson
(where Leonard shot Teddy).
But they filmed this farther to the north on that large refinery lot.
(The long row of tapered Cypress
trees, seen behind him in the photo above, is still there.)
On the advice of Teddy, Leonard takes
a room at the Discount Inn motel.
It's where we see him staying for most of the film, and it's where Teddy
joins him for that final, fatal ride.
(In fact, he takes two rooms there, thanks to the motel's unscrupulous
landlord.)
This is actually the Travel Inn,
at 7254 Foothill Blvd,
Tujunga, CA.
(That's at the southwest corner of Foothill & Hillhaven Ave.)
Tujunga is located between
the Hansen Dam (on the northwest)
and La Canada Flintridge (on the southeast)
Leonard goes to Natalie's house, where he winds up sleeping with her.
Taking advantage of his memory
lapses, she goads him into hitting her, then (after he forgets)
she tells him that Dodd beat her, and convinces him to run Dodd out of
town.
Outside the house, Teddy tries to warn Leonard not to trust Natalie, but he doesn't believe him.
Natalie's house is located
at 919 E. Magnolia Blvd, in
Burbank, CA.
That's on the northwest side of the street, about a mile northwest of her
bar.
The producers added the chain link fence and made the house look worse
for wear.

Leonard winds up at "Ferdy's
Bar", where Natalie (Carrie-Anne
Moss), the bartender,
spits in his beer, to test whether or not he's telling the truth about
his memory problem.
This was filmed at The Blue Room bar, at 916 S. San Fernando Blvd, in Burbank, CA.
That's on the north side of San Fernando Blvd, just west of Alameda Ave.
When he first pulls into the
bar's parking lot, Natalie is suspicious, because he's wearing Jimmy's
clothes, and driving Jimmy's car. That scene was filmed in the lot on the
west side of the bar.
