Location #10:

The '80s Party

Q.  Where is it supposed to be?

We see this house, supposedly in the Hollywood hills, in the scene where Mia goes to another pool party, only to discover that the pianist who snubbed her at Lipton's (Sebastian) is playing in a tacky '80s cover band (complete with '80s clothes).

The band is playing the song "Take on Me" when the scene begins (and we all remember that classic animated music video for the song, right?)

Mia can't resist getting her revenge, while she has Seb at her mercy, so when the lead singer asks for requests, she gleefully asks the band to play the song "I Ran", knowing that the keyboard player's part in that song basically amounts to striking only a single chord every four seconds...

After the number, Sebastian confronts Mia and, while admitting he acted like a jerk at Lipton's, tells her that requesting "I  Ran" from a serious musician is too much.

Here's a YouTube video of the scene:

Q.  Where was it really shot?
Like the first pool party house, this home is not in the Hollywood Hills.
Rather, it is on the other side of the hills, in the San Fernando Valley.
In fact, it's in the same town as the first party house.

This '80s pool party scene was shot at 16210 Dorilee Lane, in Encino, CA

That's about two miles southeast of the other pool party house.
and further up in the hills, near Mulholland Drive.

When the scene first opens, the camera is looking south/southwest across the pool and patio area.  The '80s band is playing on the northwest corner of a lawn, which is in between (west of) the swimming pool and (east of) the house.

Real estate pages tell us the house was built in 1964, is 2,910 square feet, and contains 4 bedrooms & 3 baths.  That's less than a third of the size of the first pool party house, but then again, but they only shot around the pool area for this scene.

But what may be more surprising is that it's not anywhere near the great view spot that Mia & Sebastian "stumble upon" after leaving this '80s party (where they perform "Lovely Night").   That view spot is supposed to be right around the corner from this house, but it's not.  It's actually a good 10 miles away, and hard to reach.

( You can read all about that "Lovely Night" spot on the next page.
)

Here is a StreetView of the front of the house:

[ Warning: This is a private home.  Do not trespass on the property,
knock on their door, or do anything to disturb the residents. ]
