Dexter: Original Sin Filming Locations: Dexter out on Camilla's boat

DEXTER: Original Sin Filming Locations - the actual places where the TV show Dexter: Original Sin was filmed.

The location: Dexter out on Camilla's boat

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A boat out at sea.

( According to those familiar with boats, the Slice  of Life is a 29-foot 2001 Century 2900 center console saltwater boat, with twin engines. )

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A.  In the Atlantic waters between Miami, Florida and the Bahamas.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. We see this brief scene in Episode 8, of Season 1.

Prompted by Harry to find his sister, Debra, Dexter visited Geo's condo and learned from his fiancee that he was going to Bimini, which is In the Bahamas 50 miles off the coast of Florida.

Dexter phones Camilla Figg from the condo and asks if he can borrow her boat, Slice of Pie.

Then in this scene we see Dexter aboard the boat, piloting it through the waters, while thinking about how there is darkness in everyone.  .

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A boat out at sea. (But nowhere near Florida.)

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. This boating scene was filmed in the the San Pedro Bay, which is the name given to the waters off the Los Angeles Harbor.

The L.A. harbor is bordered on the north side by Wilmington, on the west side by San Pedro, and on the east side by Long Beach, California. It is the busiest harbor in the Americas.

Given the background view , which includes a distant glimpse of the Angels Gate lighthouse (AKA Los Angeles Harbor Light),  he appears to be still inside the Los Angeles harbor's breakwater.

The lighthouse is located at the far end of the breakwater, about two miles off the coast of San Pedro.

it appears they launched the boat from the waters near 2976 Miner Street, in San Pedro.

That's about 100 yards south of the SS Lane Victory (which we will see later In this series).

This isn't the first time they have filmed in this warehouse / harbor district of San Pedro.

Right across the channel to the east, one can see the historic Warehouse One building, where the original series filmed the scene of the Trinity Killer forcing a woman to jump to her death from the top of that warehouse.

And they have shot several boat-oriented scenes from the Water Taxi dock at the end of that same Signal Street, including the scene  from season two where divers recover the remains of the Bay Harbor Butcher victims.

And it's also where they shot one of the last scenes in the original series, where Dexter carries Deb's body from the hospital out to his boat.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A.  At first, it looked like there was nothing to see but water, which would make it impossible for me to know whether the scene was shot in Florida or in Southern California.  But a closer look revealed a brief glimpse of what I recognized as the Angels Gate  lighthouse in the background of these boating scenes.

But even better evidence came from images posted online (by Richie Leeder) of them shooting the scene at the harbor, with Dexter at the controls of the boat. The photos even revealed the name of the boat as Slice of Pie.

Based on those photos, it appears they were they were filming this scene near the SS Lane Victory, which probably means they shot both this boating scene and the latter climactic scene aboard Spencer's cargo ship at the same time.

Here is an aerial photo of the location.  And here is a map link.
