Dexter Kidnapped / Crash scene

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A rural highway

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A.  In the small town of Iron Lake, New York.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 8, of Season 9, "Unfair Game".

After being abducted in the last episode, Dexter wakes up to find himself tied up in the back of a pickup truck, being driven by Elrick, Kurt Caldwell's henchman.

But Dexter manages to get his bound hands around Elrick's face, causing him to lose control of the truck and slam into a telephone pole.

The impact of the crash throws Dexter right through the car window, and temporarily knocks out Elrick, giving Dexter time to slip out of his bonds and head into the woods.

But Elrick regains consciousness, and armed with a high-powered rifle, he chases Dexter through the woods, after shooting him in the leg.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A rural highway, just not in New York.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. In the real world, this crash scene was shot on Route 140 in Boylston, Massachusetts.

At this point on the road, Route 140 is known both Temple Street (to the &orth) and W. Boylston Street (to the south).

They filmed here around February 23, 2021.

In the shot below, the camera is looking northwest, and the truck is  traveling  southeast, as the street runs along the west shore of the South Bay portion of the Wachusett Reservoir.

The approximate GPS location is: 42°20'42.2"N 71°45'46.5"W

Google maps it as 272-277 W. Boylston St.

( The sign that they crash into is fake, and reads "Roaring Forks", which is the name of the summer camp visited earlier by Harrison & Audrey, and where Dexter and Elrick eventually end up. )

Here is a matching Google StreetView of That spot on the highway:

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A. This was an easy one. The Telegram & Gazette did a story way back in February 2021 reporting that they were about to film somewhere on Route 140, between Maple Street in West Boylston and Main Street (Route 70) in Boylston.

They even had a description of the scene to be filmed:  "character struggles with the kidnapper as the vehicle swerves and plows into a staged 'prop' sign and barrier. The character is ejected from the car, head first."

With that much advance info, all I really needed to do was wait until that crash scene appeared on the show, in the 8th episode, and then find the exact point on the highway where they filmed it.

There was a three mile stretch to cover On that Street, but fortunately there was a yellow, triangular "winding road" street sign visible in the background, so I simply searched until I found that sign, and pinpointed the exact spot, about a mile NW. Of Main Street.
