Dexter Filming Locations: Cole Harmon's House

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Cole Harmon's House

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A residential home.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 7, of Season 5, "Circle Us".

Cole Harmon attempts to move the bodies in the barrels from Boyd's swamp to another location.

But along the way, his truck gets into an accident, and the bodies of the dead women end up strewn across a highway.

The police soon trace the registration back to Jordan Chase, a famous motivational speaker. Cole is his chief of security.

Lumen identifies him as "suit & tie guy", one of her attackers.

In this night scene, we see Dexter and Lumen pull up in a car, across the street from Cole's house.

Dexter waits for the lights to go out in the neighbor's house. When they do, he tells Lumen to wait in the car (over her objections), and then heads over to Cole's house.

Inside, he looks around and finds a photo of a group of young men. But then he is suddenly attacked from behind by Cole.

Fortunately, Lumen appears out of nowhere and beats the crap out of Cole with a heavy flashlight, and the two escape.

Later, they look at the photo, and realize that it shows Boyd, Cole, Chase and the dentist they killed at the warehouse, all together as youths.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A residential home.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. The house is at 507 NLucerne Blvd, in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

That's on the west side of the street, just north of Rosewood Ave, two blocks north of Beverly Blvd.

They added some palm trees out front, as usual, to give it more of a Florida look...

When Dexter first pulls up (with Lumen) in his car, the house we mostly see across the street is actually the neighbor's house (where the lights eventually go out). That neighbor's house is located just to the right of Cole's, at 513 N. Lucerne.

Their car is pointed north, on the east side of Lucerne, and they are looking west across the street.

Hancock Park is an affluent neighborhood, often used by filmmakers when they're looking for an upscale setting. From "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" to "Bewitched", you see Hancock Park all the time.

But Dexter has only filmed there twice before: for the Teegan's frat party house (in Season 3), and for the first part of the scene where cop Zoey Kruger pulls over Dexter's car (in Season 4).

This address is about two miles northeast of Farmers Market, and about a mile and a half southwest of the Sunset-Gower studio where they film Dexter.

Here is a Google StreetView panorama of the house:

Here is an aerial photo of the houses. And here is a map link.

[ Warning: This is a private home.  Do not knock on their door, trespass
on their property, or do anything else that might disturb the residents. ]

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  In previous seasons, I've usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes, using various clues from the scenes.  By the 5th season, though, I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know in advance when something was about to film there.

Between those reports, and my own personal reconnaissance around town, by the time the first episode aired, I already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct locations.

This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Joel, Geoff, Ellen, Julie, Susan, Jeff, and others. My thanks to all of them.

This particular tip came from Rick, who let me know that they were filming there. Google StreetView confirmed it when it showed up later on the show. (Thanks, Rick!)
