The location: The Pink Motel.

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A cheap motel.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Unspecified.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 14 (of season two), "The Rainy Day Women", where Sandy & Rebecca are forced to stay when they are on the road (she is on the lam from the law) and are caught in a rainstorm. (Don't confuse this with the Inn at Playa Del Rey, where Rebecca and Sandy stayed in another episode.)

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A motel.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. It is actually called "The Pink Motel", and it's located at 9457 San Fernando Road, in Sun Valley, CA.

Dating back to 1946, this unique little motel has appeared in a number of films and TV shows, including 2004's "The Whole Ten Yards" (with Bruce Willis & Matthew Perry) and "House of Sand & Fog".

But (as of 2008) it is still open for business as a motel. (Their number is 818-767-3605)

(Don't confuse this motel with the Mermaid Inn (a regular on the show) or the Paradise Motel, where the kids stayed on their way to Tijuana.)

Where the heck is Sun Valley? In the northeast part of the San Fernando Valley, about three miles northeast of Burbank, south of the Hansen Dam.

    Here is a map link.

Interestingly enough, scenes from the very first episode of The O.C., set in Chino, were shot in Sun Valley. And the Pink Motel is located just two blocks north (on San Fernando Road) of where the original car theft scenes were shot for the pilot. (As you might expect, this isn't exactly a good part of town...)

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A. I had found the motel earlier while researching locations for "The Whole Ten Yards" for my Seeing-Stars website..
