Seeing Stars: Where the Movies Were Shot (on Location)

The 2000's - part 1

Filming locations of TV Shows,
Made-for-TV Movies & Music Videos.

In "Hannah Montana", Miley Cyrus's character lives in a beach house with her dad & brother.

That beach house is actually located at 30760 Broad Beach Road, in Malibu.

(The house was listed for sale in 2009, with an asking price of $15 million.)

  • In the TV series "JOAN OF ARCADIA", Joan Girardi's family home is not located in the city of Arcadia, CA (where Santa Anita race track is located). The actual house used in the filming is located at 2320 First Street, in the residential "Bluff Park" section of Long Beach, California.
  • [ Warning: this is a private home. Do not knock on their door, tresspass on their property,
or do anything else that might disturb the residents
    . ]

[The series shot often in Long Beach. For instance, Joan's scenes in the girls gym were filmed inside St. Anthony High School's gymnasium (at 620 Olive Ave), and other scenes were filmed in downtown Long Beach, on Pine Avenue and Broadway.]

  • But Joan's high school was not St. Anthony's. In fact, it wasn't even in Long Beach. "Arcadia High" was actually El Segundo High School, located at 640 Main Street, in El Segundo, CA.

  • In the series, there is a large park right across the street from Joan's high school. You'll recall that in the pilot episode, Joan asks God for a miracle, and God takes her to the park and shows her a tree. That park is, indeed, right across the street from El Segundo High. It's called Library Park (because there is a library in it), and it's located just west of the high school, at 111 W. Mariposa, in El Segundo, CA.

  • The Skylight Books store (that's its real name), where Joan had a part time job, is located at 1816 1/2 N. Vermont Ave, in the Los Feliz / East Hollywood section of Los Angeles. (The scenes were shot on location for the first season, but they later built a replica of the store at the studio.)

Joan of Arcadia filming locations, go here.)

In the Comedy Central series, "RENO 911", the headquarters of the 'Washoe County Sheriff's Department' is actually the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department station, at 21356 Avalon Blvd., in the city of Carson, California (not Carson City, Nevada).

( That's about two miles south of the Home Depot Center stadium, home of the Galaxy soccer team and David Beckham. )

  • In the HBO series "SIX FEET UNDER", much of the action centers around the family home and mortuary, the Fisher & Sons Funeral Home. In real life, it's a regular house in Los Angeles, not a mortuary. The house is located at 2302 W. 25th ST, in a residential neighborhood near Gramercy Park, located just west of Arlington Ave., two blocks south of the 10 Freeway, in mid-town.

[ Warning: this is a private home. Do not knock on their door, tresspass on their property,
or do anything else that might disturb the residents
. ]

  • In the first episode of "SIX FEET UNDER", the patriarch of the Fisher family is killed when the hearse he is driving is struck broadside by a bus. That memorable crash scene was filmed at the corner of Pine Avenue & 6th Street, in Long Beach, CA.

  • In the TV series "ALIAS", secret agent Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) lives in Los Angeles, and shares an apartment with her unsuspecting friend, Francine. That apartment house, seen each week on the show, is actually located in Hollywood, just a few steps north of Hollywood Blvd. The address is 1731 N. Sycamore Avenue, just a block west of Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

[ Warning: these are private apartments. Do not knock on their doors, tresspass on their property,
or do anything else that might disturb the residents
. ]

  • On the show, Sydney lives a double life. When she's not working undercover for SD-6 or the CIA, she's trying to keep up with her classes at college. The campus seen in the show is actually the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Westwood.

  • The TV series "ROSWELL" may be set in Roswell, N.M., but it's not filmed there. "Roswell" is actually shot in a small town called Covina, California, a few miles west of Pomona. Almost all of the key filming locations are bunched together within two or three blocks of each other.
