The location: Dr. Evelyn Vogel's house |
Saxon's apartment is in between the two locations. And, of course, both Angel's cafe and Deb's beach house are just a short drive away. Dexter has filmed in this area in past seasons, as well. In fact, at the nearby corner of Bay Shore & Vista Ave, they filmed the 5th Season scene of the spilled barrels accident. And at that same intersection, they filmed the 2nd Season scene of Lila's going on a stealing spree. I shot the photo below in 2013.
[ Warning: This is private home. Do not trespass on their property, And here is a map link. One of my regular Dexter tipsters, Ellen, occasionally does work as a movie extra, although she never managed to get a role on Dexter. However, her friend, Chris Caneday Parrish, landed the job of Dr. Evelyn Vogel's body double, for that bloody scene where Vogel is murdered. Actress Charlotte Rampling, who played Dr. Vogel, had gone home to England, so they needed someone to play Vogel's dead body in the aftermath scene in Episode 11. Chris filmed the dead body scene laying on the wood floor at Vogel's house on Bay Shore Avenue; the only actor in the scene with her was Michael C. Hall, kneeling over her body. She had to keep her head turned to the side so the slashed throat showed, but not her face. They did some great makeup effects for that wound (as you can see from the photo here), and they also darkened Chris's hair and put her in bloodly clothing. Chris was kind enough to provide the photo you see to the right, via Ellen. (Thanks Chris!) Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. In the early seasons, I
usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes, using
clues from the various scenes. By the now, though, I've developed
a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and let me know in advance when something is about to film there.
Rick initially told me about this location. Later, Jim Frey let me know that they had started filming there (on Feb. 28).
