The
location: The Skinner's Assistant's House. |
![]() A. A modest
residential home. Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. Somewhere
in Miami. Q. When did we see it on the show? A. In Episode 9 (of Season 3), "About Last Night". Debra
& Quinn are desperate to find the serial killer They're sure that the Skinner's assistant, Mario, knows where he is, but he's so frightened of the Skinner, that there's no way he's going to tell them anything. So Debra comes up with a plan to con Mario. When she drives him back to his home, he finds his driveway littered with palm fronds: the Skinner's trademark signature at his murder scenes. Debra
convinces Mario that she accidentally led the Skinner to believe that Mario
told the cops Mario is, of course, terrified. Debra tells him that she can't protect him unless she can find out where the Skinner is and arrest him. So Mario spills the beans, telling Debra about the Skinner's hideout under a freeway. She tells Mario to lock himself in his house, and that she will send a patrol car around. After that encounter, we see Debra meet up with Quinn, who is paying off tree trimmers whom he hired to trim Mario's palms (to make it look like the Skinner did it).
Q. What is it actually in real life? A. A residential home - but not in Miami.
Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. You'll find this home at 1342 Gordon Street, in Hollywood. (And, yes, there are tall palm trees in front of the house.) That's right across the street (east of) the Sunset-Gower studio where they film "Dexter". They've shot a lot on this block, which isn't surprising, considering how convenient it is as a location. For instance, Anton's apartment house is located just two houses to the south. Teegan's house, where Dexter kills Freebo, is located about seven homes to the north, on this same street. ( This same
yellow house was used again in the 4th season, as a foreclosed house visited
by Dexter when he is trying to find the kidnapped boy that the Trinity
Killer has kidnapped. ) Here is a Google StreetView panorama of the house

Warning: This is a private home. Do not
knock on their door, trespass on their property,
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. My
hunch was that this house was probably in San Pedro (where they have filmed
a number of blue-collar homes, such as Freebo's). Fortunately,
"Dexter" fan Geoff (who
has been doing a great job of tracking down the locations I missed) tipped
me to the location. ( Thanks,
Geoff! )
