Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A rowdy public room run by vampires.
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A.
In Episode 1, of the final Season 7 ("Jesus Gonna Be Here").
Eric is missing, and Pam is looking for her maker.
In
this exotic scene, she is standing in a large, boisterous crowd, about to play a
fatal game of Russian Roulette with a confident male vampire - and if she wins,
she gets info about Eric's location.
The two contestants stand in large buckets - to catch the bloody remains of the loser.
They
take turns pointing a pistol at their own hearts and pulling the trigger -
while they discuss God, and the crowd around them makes bets and eggs them on.
But
just as her opponent is bragging that his God loves him, he pulls the
trigger with confidence, and the gun goes off - dissolving him into a
puddle of red goo (which they take away in the bucket).
Pam then collects the information she wanted (a person to contact) and leaves.
This
same location is seen again later in the episode, but it's supposed to be
somewhere else - the marketplace where Pam is told to go. There, she
meets a couple who offer her a young girl to feed on (she declines),
and who give her a map telling her that Eric is at the old vineyard in Rhone, France.
Q.
What is it actually, in real life?
|
The
location: Russian Roulette
|
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A.
This scene was actually filmed in the Figueroa Hotel, at 939 S. Figueroa Street, in downtown Los Angeles.
That's just north of the Nokia Theatre, the Staples Center and L.A. Live.
Built in 1925 as a YWCA residence, the hotel has a unique Moroccan /
Middle Eastern theme.
And because of that, it's been used often for
filming scenes that are supposed to be in some exotic locale, including for the TV shows "Chuck", "Alias", "90210", "NCIS: Los Angeles", "CSI: Miami", and the movie "Battleship".
(Club Fes)
(Room Tangier)
(The Lobby Cafe)
Q.
How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. I
recognized the unusual hanging lamps in the scene. There aren't
many places in L.A. with lamps like that, and with such a Middle
Eastern ambiance. And I knew in advance that they had filmed at
the Hotel Figueroa. The only question was what scene they had
shot there. The lamps gave it away.
