The location: Queen Sophie-Anne's Mansion

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. The mansion/home of Sophie-Anne, the Vampire Queen of Louisiana.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. In New Orleans, Louisiana.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. We first glimpse the house at the end of Episode 10 of Season 2 ("New World in My View"), when Bill arrives to
talk to the Queen. Inside, we see a very brief shot of a woman's bloody leg, and the episode ends on that cliff-hanger note.

We get a better look at the posh mansion in Episode 11 ("Frenzy"), where we learn that Sophie-Anne was feeding on a voluntary human host - hence the bloody leg.

Bill asks the Queen how to get rid of Maryann, the ancient Maenad who is terrorizing Bon Temps.

The slightly-crazy Queen gives Bill advice (that proves effective later) while she forces him to join her seemingly endless the game of Yahtzee.

While there, Bill meets Sookie's cousin, Hadley.

The Queen eventually lets him leave.

As Bill is leaving, Eric arrives, seeking the same information - and (not surprisingly) winds up playing Yahtzee with the Queen.

Q. What is it actually, in real life?

    A. It appears to be a very palatial pool house, next to an actual mansion.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. The building is located on a cliff overlooking the ocean (as well a the famous Malibu Colony), at 26880 Pacific Coast Highway, in MalibuCA.

It is one of several structures on a large estate at that address.  The main home seems to be next door, to the east. The building we see appears to be a very elaborate pool house, with skylights above a narrow indoor pool.

( What is odd is that there is another pool right outside the building. But I guess when you've got that kind of money, you can afford both an indoor pool and an outdoor pool... )

Known as "La Villa Contenta", the  13-bedroom mansion was recently on sale for $54 million.  If you just want to rent it, that will set you back a cool $350,000 per month. Beyonce and Jay Z rented it for the summer of 2017.  Rianna rented it while making an album.)

Here is an aerial photo of the pool house. And here is a map link.

And here is a wider aerial view of the estate, with the pool house marked:

[ Remember that this is a private home.  (It is also not visible from the highway.)
Do not trespass on their property or disturb the residents.
    ]

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A. I found this estate twice before, while tracking down locations for other Hollywood films:

First when I was researching the 2009 comedy "I Love You Man", where it played the role of a resort where Paul Rudd was getting married.

And I ran into it a second time when I was looking for the locations of the Adam Sandler comedy "Funny People" (where it served as Adam Sandler's posh home).

"I Love You Man" mainly used the exteriors of the estate. But in "Funny People" we see the same pool house interior we see in the Queen Sophie-Anne scenes.

( Now that I think about it, I originally had some help finding it the first time. Chas Demster tracked it down for me during that initial search for the "I Love You Man" wedding resort. )
