When Michael Jackson married Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, where did they go to buy their very special wedding announcements? To the Candy Factory in North Hollywood, which created custom chocolate bars for them with musical notes and hearts, which read "Lisa Marie & Michael."

Likewise, when
Markie Post ("Hearts Afire") wanted to give chocolate gavels to the cast of "Night Court," she got the special mold and chocolate here at the Candy Factory. Markie's now a regular, buying new chocolate molds every year for her daughter's birthday.

The Candy Factory sells 15,000 special molds and melting chocolate for do-it-yourselfers to make everything from chocolate party favors to chocolate toothbrushes. Their chocolate comes in not only the usual dark & white varieties, but also in colors such as pink and green.

Or, if you don't mind paying extra (like "the gloved one"), they will do all the work for you.

The Candy Factory made the news in 1997, following the infamous boxing match in which boxer Mike Tyson bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear. Owner Frank Sheftel came out with "Earvander-Tyson Bites," molded chocolate ears with a bite taken out of them. But Holyfield didn't think it was funny, and his lawyers forced the store to stop selling the novelty items. Frank was also sued by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, when he created 200 chocolate Oscars for a studio party.

They also carried a line of chocolate goods ("Chaka-lates") from disco queen Chaka Khan, including Chaka-late cigars, and a chocolate rabbit known as "Ain't No Bunny (Loves Me Better)."

The Candy Factory also hosts birthday parties for kids (where the party guests can create their own chocolate items from molds), and even offers classes on chocolate-making.

Getting there: The Candy Factory is located in the San Fernando Valley, on Magnolia Blvd., near the southwest corner of Magnolia and Whitsett Avenue. / From Burbank's studio area, take the Ventura (101) Freeway west to the Laurel Canyon Blvd exit, go north on Laurel Canyon (less than a mile) to Magnolia, then go west on Magnolia (about four blocks) to just past Whitsett. The store will be on your left (south) side.
