The location: Valentine's Day Beach Party.

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A beach where Kirsten & Julie throw a night time Valentine's Day Party.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. The exact location isn't mentioned, but most likely Newport Beach.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 15 (of season three), "The Heavy Lifting":

Trying to get their new matchmaking/dating service (NewMatch) off the ground, Kirsten & Julie plan a big Valentine's Day Party at the beach. We first see them planning the party in the daytime, and then see the actual party itself, which is held on the beach at night, complete with neon signs, sparkle lights and heart-shaped fireworks.

There are quite a few sub-plots resolved at the party: Seth makes up with Summer (by giving her a written confession she can use against him if he lies to her again).Kaitlin agrees to go back to school with Justin. Marissa comforts Chili on the beach (over the death of Johnny). Dr. Roberts asks Julie to be his Valentine. And Matt hooks up with Maya (the daughter of an influential client).

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A beach, but not in Newport.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. The Valentine's Day party scenes were filmed at Leo Carrillo State Beach, in Malibu, the same location as Johnny's funeral, which was also shown in this same episode.

The general beach address is 36000 Pacific Coast Highway.

To be more specific, the party was staged on the sand near the beach's famous caves, just west of where Mulholland Drive meets Pacific Coast Highway, 28 miles northwest of Santa Monica.

Here is an aerial photo of the rocky beach.

    Here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A. In the daylight scene, where Kirsten & Julie are setting up the Valentine's Day party preparations on the beach, you can clearly see the same twin rocks (in the background) that were used in the shot where Kaitlin is brooding on the beach, after Johnny's funeral. I had already identified the beach in the funeral scenes as Leo Carrillo.
