According to the CIA, at least 20 countries -- nearly half of them in the Middle East and South Asia -- already have or may be developing weapons of mass destruction. Moreover, it is a matter of public record that there were tens of thousands of them constructed and waiting on launching pads during the Cold War. To this day, according to a published report, 164 transportable warheads are still unaccounted for. Starring Ben Affleck as CIA Analyst Jack Ryan and Morgan Freeman as CIA Director William Cabot, "The Sum of All Fears" is a chillingly realistic portrait of what could happen if one of those weapons fell into the wrong hands. Eerily prescient in the current political climate, the film is a frightening depiction of how quickly fear can escalate into a paranoia that dominates man's ability to reason. "Stop Cancer" STOP CANCER was founded in 1988 by the late Dr. Armand Hammer and is chaired by Sherry Lansing, Chairman of Paramount Pictures' Motion Pictures Group. The organization is unique in its direct funding of cancer research scientists at Los Angeles' three National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers -- UCLA's Jonsson, USC's Norris and City of Hope Centers. All funds raised by STOP CANCER are matched in-kind by the receiving institutions, creating a Research Career Development Award for a value of over $300,000 to each scientist.
