DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Speeding to Save Vogel

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Public streets.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. The Morningside Park area of Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 5, of Season 8, "This Little Piggy".

After Dr. Vogel is taken prisoner by her psychopathic patient (and serial killer) Yates, Dexter & Debra desperately try to find them before Yates kills her.

In this brief scene, they have managed to trace Yates' phone to a house at 157 Montgomery. Dex & Deb are both in a car, at night, speeding to the address and hoping they're not too late to save her.

As they drive, they can overhear part of the desperate conversation between Vogel & Yates (via an open phone), as she tries to convince the killer that she's on his side - and stay alive - while Dexter desperately speeds to the house.

However, Yates spots the phone Vogel has left on  and flies into a rage, just as Dex & Deb arrive at the house.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. Public streets - but nowhere near Miami.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This driving scene was shot on the streets of Hancock Park, near the Wilshire Country Club.

The first driving shot (where you can see a 35-mph speed limit sign) was filmed driving west on 3rd Street at night, just before Rimpau Blvd, near 5180 W. 3rd.

That's just east of the south end of Wilshire Country Club.

The later driving shot (where tall hedges line both sides of the street) was filmed half a mile to the north, while heading east on Beverly Blvd, as it cuts through the middle of the Wilshire Country Club - between Hudson & Rossmore Avenues, near 5980 Beverly Blvd.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  My first clue to this one was that blue & white street sign reading "Rimpau". I knew Rimpau Blvd was a north/south street in Hancock Park (where they had filmed earlier for this episode).  I could see that they were on some other east/west street, heading towards Rimpau.  So I went to Google StreetView and began looking at all of the intersections with Rimpau, looking for that blue street sign mounted just above a traffic light.  Fortunately, there weren't many of them, and I was able to quickly discover that it was the intersection of 3rd & Rimpau.

There were no street name signs in the second driving scene.  My main clue was the large hedges on each side of the road, as well as a curve in the road, and the fact that there were banners hanging from the light poles.  Assuming it would probably be near the other scene, I started looking for curved streets in Hancock Park, and Beverly Blvd jumped out at me.  I switched to satellite view and looked for hedges, noting that Beverly passed through the Country Club's golf course.  Once I knew it was on Beverly, it was just a matter of finding that 35-mph speed limit sign, and matching the view to the screenshot.
