Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

A. A public road.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

A. Next to the beach, in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

A. In Episode 3, of Season 8, "What's Eating Dexter Morgan?".

Debra has been busted for DUI, and Quinn has just gotten her out of police custody.

In this very short scene, he is driving her to work (at Elway Investigations). They are heading along a street next to the beach.

She looks for gum in his car's glove compartment, to mask her breath.

He asks her if she wouldn't prefer to go home first and take a shower.. But she declines.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

A. A public street, next to a beach.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. This was shot on Ocean Boulevard, the main coastal road in Long Beach, CA.

To be more specific, the car is headed northwest on Ocean, in the Belmont Shore area, between the Long Beach peninsula and the Belmont Pier, roughly from 4600 Ocean to 5300 Ocean.

To be even more specific, here are two exact matching Google StreetViews:

Look at the screencap below. Note the oddly bent palm tree in the center divider,
as well as the one-way sign and a green box -- plus the beach in the distance.

They are at approximately 5307 E. Ocean Blvd, near Glendora Ave:

Now, in the next screencap below. You see that corner apartment building with a
number of small palm trees growing right in front, almost pushing into the upper floor?

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A. I have driven Ocean Blvd many times. And it's basically the only major street in Long Beach that runs along the actual ocean beach (as opposed to one of the bays). I recognized it when I saw it. Then it was just a matter of freeze-framing the details and matching them via Google StreetView.

I know that in the Belmont Shore area, most of the smaller streets running into ocean are one-way streets, so that was the first place I looked.
