Q. What is it supposed to be on the show? A. A public street. Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. Somewhere in Miami. Q. When did we see it on the show? A. In Episode 3, of Season 8, "What's Eating Dexter Morgan?". Debra is deeply depressed and guilt-ridden about having killed LaGuerta (last season), and has turned to drinking and drugs to kill the pain. In this scene, she is passed out drunk in her car when a young uniformed cop knocks on her window. He recognizes her as the former police lieutenant, but she is obviously drunk, she has multiple open containers in her car, and worse, she ran into (and damaged) a city parking meter. So the cop takes her in on a DUI. She's still angry with Dexter, so she calls up poor Quinn at 4 AM, when he's asleep with Jamie. Quinn comes down to the station and gets her out of the jam. Q. What is it actually in real life? A. A public street. Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. This was shot in front of our old familiar friend, the small strip mall at 6000 Fountain Avenue (at the southwest corner of Fountain and Gower), in Hollywood.


The Dexter producers have used this nondescript location numerous times over the last eight seasons, as everything from The Swamp bar (in Season 2), to a tailor shop (in Season 3), to Dexter's donut shop (in Season 6).


No doubt that's because it is located literally across the street from (south of) the Sunset-Gower studio where Dexter is filmed. So, when they need a small storefront or a street corner in a hurry, this spot is simply convenient.


Debra is parked on the south side of Fountain, with her car facing east, right in front of EA Beauty Salon, at 6006 Fountain.


And for the record?  There are no parking meters on that block of Fountain.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A.  I have seen this strip mall on Fountain a zillion times on Dexter, and I've created many different location pages for it over the years.  So, I simply recognized it when it popped up again.
