Dexter: Original Sin Filming Locations: The Swimming Pool House
The
location: The Swimming Pool House
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A residential home
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. In or near Miami, Florida.
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. We see this former Morgan home in Episode 1, of Season 1.
It is the
early home of Harry Morgan and his wife Doris, and the scene of a family
tragedy when their young son accidentally drowns in the family's
backyard swimming pool.
The date is uncertain, but it's before Dexter was adopted by the Morgans .
The scene reveals something we didn't learn in the original Dexter series,
namely that Harry had a child before he adopted Dexter, and that son
tragically died, drowning in the family pool while Harry was distracted watching a football game on TV.
Harry finds the small boy Underwater in the pool and tries desperately to revive him, but with no success. His wife,
Doris, arrives home to find the boy's body being taken away by the coroner.
The incident provides more motivation for Harry to adopt Dexter, And the
guilt he feels about allowing his first son to die on his watch helps
explain why Harry is so determined to keep Dexter alive &
well.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
A. A residential home.
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This house is located at 13144 Aetna Street, in Van Nuys, CA.
That's only a mile northwest of the regular Morgan family home, and about four and a half miles northwest of their new studio.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. This was
difficult. Not much is shown of the house itself. It wasn't until I took
a frame-by-frame look at the scene outside the house, where Harry's
wife arrives and runs towards her son, that I finally spotted that if
you freeze-frame it, you can very briefly see the house number on the
curb, just before Harry grabs her: 13144.
Hi
There aren't that many 13144's in the Los Angeles area, and given that
they had been filming a lot in this part of the San Fernando Valley, it
wasn't hard to quickly pinpoint the exact location and match it up via
StreetView.
Here is a StreetView from Google:
( You'll note that since this StreetView was taken in 2015,
the landscaping has changed rather dramatically over the years. )
