F Dexter Filming Locations: The Morgan Family Home

The location: The Morgan Family Home



Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. The home where Dexter, Harry, and Debra Morgan live.


Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A.  In or near Miami, Florida. 


Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. We first see the Morgan home in Episode 1, of Season 1.

    We first see a night shot of the  house, and later a daylight shot as young Dexter arrives home home to find police cars outside his house. We later see a closer view as he leaves the house to take out the trash.   
     
    But this central location is likely to be a recurring one in the series. 

     

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A residential home. 
     

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. in the real world, this house is located  at 12824 Hatteras Street, in the Valley Village neighborhood of Los Angeles. 

As the name suggests, Valley Village is located in the San Fernando Valley. The  neighborhood was originally part of North Hollywood, only with more expensive homes. But by the early '90s, it had been recognized as a separate entity.

This is located about two and a half miles northwest of the studio where Dexter: Original Sin is shot (which most likely influenced their choice of the location).



Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A.  The very first shot we see of the Morgan House is a dark one, showing the house at night. 

You can't see much in that original photo .

But fortunately, I am very well-acquainted with Photoshop, so I used it to brighten the photo, enhance the contrast and sharpen the image.
 
And in that brighter version of the image (below), one can clearly see the house number painted on the curb in front of the house: 12824.

And since that is a five-digit address, there are very few 12824's in the area, making it easy to find.
