Dexter: Original Sin Filming Locations: Handsome Tony's house
The
location: Handsome Tony's house
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A residential house.
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. In or near Miami, Florida.
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. We see the house in Episode 3, of Season 1.
After stalking “Handsome Tony” Ferrar at the Cuban cafe, Dexter breaks into his house to find more evidence against him.
Dexter is surprised when a voice suddenly calls out “Honey, I'm home!”.
He quickly hides, but it turns out to be nothing but a talking parrot in a
cage.
Looking through Tony’s desk, he comes
across a book with all of his loan records and the names of his
customers, including a few listed as “Paid in full”.
Later, when Dexter checks those “Paid in full” names against his police database, he finds they are dead.
The house shows up once again later on in the same episode, when
Tony comes home, only to find Dexter waiting for him. Since Dexter
hadn’t started using M99 yet, there is a struggle before Dexter
finally subdues Tony.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
A. A residential house.
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This scene was filmed at 4278 Sherman Oaks Ave, in Sherman Oaks, CA.
That's in the San Fernando Valley, between Encino and Studio City, not
far from the interchange of the San Diego Freeway & the Ventura
Freeway, and about two miles west of the new studio.
** A bit of fun trivia for the fans
of Old Hollywood: Tony's house is located just a few houses away from
the home where flamboyant pianist Liberaceused to live, which is notable for having a swimming pool in the back which is shaped like a piano, complete with keys. You can see an aerial photo of the piano pool here.
Liberace's former place is located at the northwest corner of Sherman
Oaks Ave & Valley Vista Blvd, at 15411 Valley Vista Blvd. ( The
pool isn't visible from the street, and remember that this is a private
home, so respect the privacy of the current owners. )
This tip comes from Ron B., who was a huge help when I was tracking down the Massachusetts locations for Dexter: New Blood. Thanks Ron! )
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. Once again, the street address was visible in the scene, albeit very briefly. You
have to look closely, when they first show the house from a distance, as
Dexter is walking towards it. The number is painted on the curb, to the
left. Pause it, and then blow-up the image In PhotoShop, and it's
fairly clear: 4278.
