DEXTER: Original Sin Filming Locations - the actual places where the TV show Dexter: Original Sin was filmed.

The location: Dexter's first Miami Metro
crime scene

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A storefront center.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A.  In Miami's “Little Havana” neighborhood.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. We see it in Episode 2, of Season 1.

Young Dexter, having recently become a police intern with Miami Metro, gets to accompany the team on a crime scene investigation for the first time.

There, they find the dead body of a man lying on the parking lot in front of a strip mall. The victim has been shot in the head.

Dexter is sent across the street on the menial task of getting coffee for the group, but he doesn't complain .

Dexter enthusiastically tries to impress the team with his forensic analysis of blood spatter, indicating that the man had been shot at close range by someone standing right in front of him. But he is somewhat  embarrassed when they point out that conclusion is obvious from the powder burn on the victim's forehead.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A strip mall / storefront.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. This scene was shot at the southeast corner of N. Broadway & Avenue 19 in the (mostly-Latino) Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles.

[ It is later revealed that the victim was named Raul Martinez, a nurse who was murdered by Dexter's brother, Brian Moser, because he had stolen Brian's medicine at the Harbor Light mental hospital. ]

That's about one mile east of Dodger Stadium.
The small strip mall is anchored by a defunct coin-op laundry at one end ( 214 S. Ave 19 ), and Maya's restaurant at the other end (200 S. Ave 19 ).

When Dexter goes  across the street to fetch the coffee, we see a colorful mural featuring a girl wearing a Cuban flag headband. That artwork was put on the wall of the building at 205 Avenue 19, but was removed after the production wrapped.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A.  This looked potentially tricky, but eventually the camera pulls back and in the background you can spot a large, tall sign reading “Maya's restaurant”.

Googling that name turned up an address at 200 Avenue 19, in Lincoln Heights, and StreetView quickly showed the matching aqua blue strip mall next door.
