Dexter: Original Sin Filming Locations: Captain Spencer's condo
The
location: Captain Spencer's Condo
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A condominium or apartment house
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. In or near Miami, Florida.
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. We see this condo twice in Episode 9, of Season 1.
The first time is when Dexter goes there to wait in ambush for Spencer.
As he looks
around the place, Dexter thinks that the apartment doesn't look like
the home of a police captain, but rather like the crash pad of a
recently divorced husband
But Dexter is surprised when Spencer comes home with Harry, forcing Dex to hide, and then beat a hasty retreat.
We see it a second time when Spencer comes home alone, and finds a blackmail note on his door.
It appears
to be from Victor, the guy who Spencer got to plant Nicky’s T-shirt as
fake evidence in the cartel stash house. The note demands $5,000 to keep
quiet, and says to go to 300 Oceana Drive.
Spencer is angry, and immediately grabs a gun and heads to that address (which turns out to be the Pirate Arcade).
What he
doesn’t know is that the note was actually written by Dexter, to lure
Spencer to the kill room he had set up at the arcade.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
A. A condominium.
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. In real life this is the Chateau Lisa, a condominium located at 2101 2nd Street, in the Bluff Park neighborhood of Long Beach, California.
The conThat's excellent do is located across the street from (east of) Bixby Park,
at the northeast corner of 2nd St. & Junipero Ave., just 100 yards
north of the beach.
That's about a mile east of the downtown corner where they filmed Dexter stalking Levi Reed through Miami Beach.
According to listings, the Chateau Lisa was built in 1968; it has 4 stories and 15 units.
Reportedly, the production trimmed the trees outside and moved vintage furniture inside, indicating that they filmed the interior scenes here as well as the outdoor shots.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. This one was easy. I've known from October 2024 that they had filmed a scene here, after reading this article from the Long Beach Post.
All I had to do was wait until the condo showed up in the series to know which character was living there.
And in case I had any doubts, they made it particularly easy for me by showing the name and the street number of the condominium In the opening shot:
