Q. What is it supposed to be on the show? A. The Edgewater Yacht Club. Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A.  In or near Miami, Florida. ( For the record, there is no Edgewater Yacht Club in Florida. The only Edgewater Yacht Club I could find is in Cleveland, Ohio, and it's on Lake Erie, not the Atlantic Ocean.)   Q. When did we see it on the show? A. We see this marina in Episode 4, of Season 1. Dexter is stalking a former hitman named Anthony "Mad Dog" Moretti. He appears to have retired from the business, and is now running a fishing boat out of a marina at the Edgewater Yacht Club. Dexter tries to charter his fishing boat, planning to kill him at sea. but those plans are foiled when "Mad Dog" insists on bringing along another fishing party. Dexter quizzes him while they are at sea, and although they are talking metaphorically, the conversation leaves little doubt that "Mad Dog" was a contract killer.

When Dexter breaks into his house, he finds evidence suggesting that "Mad Dog" isn't retired, and that he is planning yet another murder.

A. A marina, but nowhere near Florida.
 

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. This scene was filmed at the Alamitos Bay Marina in Long Beach, CA.

There are two marinas In Long Beach: The Shoreline Marina on the west side of town (near Shoreline Village and Shoreline Park), and this Alamitos Bay Marina on the east side of Long Beach, which is next  to  both the La Palmita restaurant and the park bench where Dexter later tells Harry he is planning to kill "Handsome Tony".

So don't get them confused.

Although the restaurant scene and the park bench scene were shot at the far southwest tip of the marina (in Basin 1) , this scene was shot farther northeast, near the center of the marina (in Basin 3).

( They doubtlessly shot this marina scene during the same road trip when they were shooting the restaurant scene and most likely the park bench scene as well. )

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A.  At first, I thought this might have been shot in Florida.

But as I was taking a closer look at the scenes, I spotted a familiar building: the Long Beach Yacht Club.

Not to be confused with the nearby (and similar-looking) Alamitos Bay Yacht Club (which is at the end of the Long Beach peninsula), the Long Beach Yacht Club is located at the southeast end of Naples Island, at 6201 Appian Way, Long Beach, CA.

That seeing it left no doubt that the scene was filmed at the Alamitos Bay Marina.
