The
location: Lundy's Bluewater Hotel |
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. The Bluewater
Hotel.
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. Somewhere in Miami.
Q. When did we see it on the show? A. We first see the hotel in Episode 2 (of Season 4), "Remains To Be Seen ", when Debra comes to Agent Lundy's hotel room, thinking that he wants to rekindle their romance (from season two). After she tells him (somewhat unconvincingly) how great her relationship is with Anton, he tells her that the reason he's in Miami is to track down the Trinity Killer. Debra is embarrassed for having presumed he was there for her, and flees the room. We saw the hotel again in Episode 3 (of Season 4), "Blinded By The Light", when Debra & Lundy are in the restaurant's bar, and he's telling her details about the Trinity case. Just when the conversation is starting to get a little personal, she gets an awkward cell phone call from Anton. We see again in Episode 4 (of Season 4), first when Debra shows up unexpected at Lundy's door and kisses him. Then it makes its most dramatic appearance the next morning, at the end of that Episode 4, when both Lundy and Debra are shot down by an unseen assassin in the hotel's parking lot. And finally,
we see it as a crime scene in Episode
5 (of Season 4), "Dirty Harry".
While the cops are working in the parking lot, Dexter takes the opportunity to break into Lundy's hotel room and steal his research material on the Trinity case. We see it one
last time (or at least, it's parking lot), in the memorable scene where
Dexter finds Debra standing alone in the parking lot, looking at the spot
where Lundy died. Shattered by grief, she breaks down and sobs in Dexter's
arms. Q. What is it actually in real life? A. A waterside hotel, but far from Miami.
Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. This is the Marina Del Rey Hotel, at 13534 Bali Way, in Marina del Rey, CA. It's the same hotel they used earlier in the season as the Reef Hotel (where the cops investigated a Vacation Murder). Only that time they used the rear of the hotel, and this time they used the main front entrance. They used another part of the same hotel (the round, southeast end) for the pharmacy scene. It's about a
mile west of Zoey Kruger's home. And they shot
the scenes of Trinity stalking his second
victim at a shopping/dining area not far from the hotel. Back in Season One, this is the same hotel where they filmed the infamous "room full of blood" scene. In previous
seasons, they've shot a lot in Marina Del Rey, including Dexter & Rita's
wedding, Miguel
Prado's hotel, the boating store,
Lila's diner, and the Narcotics
Anonymous meeting.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. This
was an easy one. As I mentioned above, they used the same hotel in Season
One for the room-full-of-blood scene, and
they showed the same entrance shot in those scenes. So I just recognized
it when I saw it.
