The
location: The Break-In / Hook-Up. |
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A residential
home.
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. It's supposedly
Dexter's neighborhood, in Miami.
Q. When did we see it on the show? A. In Episode 7 (of Season 2), "That Night, A Forest Grew ". In the scene, it is night, and Dexter & Lila are out for a stroll in a residential area. They are walking slowly, and Lila remarks that Dexter lives in a nice neighborhood. He says that he had no idea, that he's "not a real big walker", and is usually "passing by at 35 mph". She asks why he's grouchy, and he mentions that it's all happening so suddenly, his estrangement from Rita and her kids, problems with Debra (who dislikes Lila)... Lila, on the defensive, switches gears and suggests sex. We
next see them running across the front lawn of a nearby house. They
run up to the front door, Afterward, when they are getting dressed, Dexter gets a cell phone call from Cody (Rita's young son), who asks him to come to his school tomorrow, where Cody is to give a report on Saudi Arabia. Rita's controlling mother overhears the conversation and hangs up on him. He
tells Lila he thinks he'll go - which doesn't please her.
Q. What is it actually in real life? A. A residential
home. But not in Miami.
Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. You'll find the home at 955 El Campo Drive, just east of San Marino and just south of Pasadena, CA. That's about a mile east of the famous Huntington Library & Gardens. The home is on the west side of street, just two houses south of the Mediterranean mansion where LaGuerta, Doakes and Dexter investigate a poolside murder. In this walking scene, Lila & Dexter simply walk from that mansion south (two houses) down El Campo Drive, to this house, where they break in.
I shot the photos below in 2009. [
Warning: This is a private home. Do not
knock on their door,
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. The key to this location is knowing the whereabouts of the Mediterranean mansion, since this home is almost next door to that earlier location. If you watch
the walking scene carefully, you can spot the mansion's front gate in the
background as Dexter & Lila walk away from it and head south down
the west side of El Campo Drive. Along the way, you can see items (such
as an old-fashioned mailbox) that match the Google StreetView of the area. You
can't see much of the break-in house itself when they arrive there, but
that low, ranch-style wood fence out front is unmistakable, and the front
windows and door also match.
