Quinn has been getting drunk and behaving badly, lately, and it's getting on Angels nerves.
In this
scene, we first see them driving down a street in a car, heading back home (in Angel's old Trans-Am)
after retrieving Quinn's gun (which he lost in the back seat of a cougar's car).
Suddenly, their car's engine overheats and they are forced to pull to the side of the road.
As Angel is
trying to fix the engine, they get into an argument, and Quinn becomes
particularly insulting, citing Angel's failed marriages, his estranged
daughter, and the recent loss of his job promotion to Debra.
Angel snaps
and the two roll around on the ground, exchanging
punches, then Angel gets the upper hand and is pummeling Quinn.
Just then, a
passerby (a woman pushing a baby carriage) yells at Angel to stop, or
she'll call the cops. That breaks up the fight.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
A. A public street.
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This scene was shot just off Loynes Drive, in Long Beach, CA.,
When we first see them driving, their car is heading east on Loynes Drive.
Their car breaks down near the northeast corner of a small side street off Loynes - which is either called Palo
Verde Ave. or E. Vista Street, depending upon which map you look at.
Whatever its name, that side street leads into a residential neighborhood named University Park Estates.
It's near the entrance of a long, narrow park (Channel View Park) that runs along west edge of the nearby flood control channel.
This is off the north side of
Loynes Drive, just west of Studebaker Road, just past the Loynes bridge,
and right across the street from the spot where they shot the scene of the fruit vendor's murder, back in Episode 1 of this season.
This side street is the exact same spot where
Travis & Gellar were parked before that fruit vendor killing, and
it's where Jordan Chase got out of his car to silence Lumen, in Season 5.
It's also right across the street (Loynes) from the spot where Dexter stole a car last season.
Loynes Drive is near the neighborhood and golf course they used as the Tooth Fairy's retirement village, in Episode 3. And it's also the street where you'll find the scene of Deb's shoot-out.
Loynes is also the same street that they used in last (5th) season for another fruit vendor scene: the one where the vendor recognized Jordan Chase, as he was driving with Lumen in his trunk.
I shot the photos below in 2010.
This was shot from my car, heading east on Loynes Drive.
This photo was shot on E. Vista/Palo Verde, just north of Loynes Drive, with the camera looking south.
The fight took place on the lawn of green rubber plants, near the big tree.
A. After visiting the exact same spot several times in the past, I simply recognized it this time.
However, if I hadn't, Julie also
sent me an email, just before they filmed there, saying her brother had
received a notice at his house that they would be filming on Loynes
again, between PCH & Studebaker. (Thanks, Julie!)
