The
location: Taylor's
TV Studio.
Q. What is it supposed to be on the show? A. A TV studio, IPE Media Center.
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. The location
isn't specified, but most likely somewhere in Newport Beach. Q. When did we see it on the show? A. In Episode 10 (of season four), "The French Connection". Taylor, who is being pursued by her French ex-husband, Henri-Michel, learns hat her favorite French TV talk show, "Je Pense" (which translates to "I Think"), is in town, taping a segment about Newport, and Taylor agrees to appear on the show. Ryan gets his feelings hurt when Taylor lies about him being an expert on David Hume in order to impress her ex, and he thinks she's ashamed of him. He decides to end their relationship. In the scene at the TV station, we see Ryan pull up in his car outside of the TV studio, park, and run inside, where he kisses Taylor. That scene, it turns out, is just a fantasy sequence.
Q. What is it actually in real life? A. Part of a
studio, but not a TV studio, and nowhere near Newport.
A. At Raleigh's Manhattan Beach Studios, 1600 Rosecrans Ave, in Manhattan Beach, CA, the same studio where they film the O.C. interiors. They shot this scene in the same spot where they shot the meeting between Kaitlin and Frank in the show's final episode: in front of the main building at the far north end of the studio - on the south side of that building, to be exact, just north of Stage 28. That's close to the corner of Rosecrans Ave and N. Redondo Ave. They just slapped on a sign near the door which said it was the IPE Media Center. [ This
same spot was used for another studio fake-out: the "Al
Forno restaurant". ] Here is a Bird's Eye view aerial photo showing the exact spot. And here is
a map
link. Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. I had just
finished locating the Seattle cafeteria scene,
so I had been looking at aerial photos of the studio. When I saw Ryan pull
into the parking lot, I recognized it. You can also see part of the
red Office Depot sign (across the street) in the background. And if you
look closely as Ryan pulls into the parking lot, even though it's dark,
you can see that he passes a StarWaggon, one of the popular custom
trailers used for on location filming. By
