The
location:
The Inn at Playa del Rey.
Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. An inn.
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. In Playa
Del Rey.
Q. When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode
12 (of season 2), "The Lonely Hearts Club", it's
where Sandy stashes his ex-girlfriend, Rebecca, when she's on the lam from
the law.
Q. What is it actually in real life?
A. An inn.
Q. Where can I find it in real life?
A. For a change, it is exactly what you would expect, The Inn at Playa del Rey is an actual bed & breakfast hotel located at 435 Culver Blvd., in Playa del Rey, CA.
Most Los Angelenos
probably couldn't even tell you where Playa del Rey is, but those who do
know would probably think that Playa Del Rey seems an odd location for
a romantic inn. It's located in between Marina
Del Rey (on the north) and El Segundo (on the south), putting
it near the path of the jet airliners that come and go from Los Angeles
International Airport (LAX).
But it's not as bad as it seems. The Inn is
located on the far northwest edge of Playa Del Rey, on an isolated stretch
of Culver Blvd, next to a quiet bird sanctuary. In fact, the travel editors
of the Washington Post named The Inn at Playa del Rey as one of
their three favorite hotels in the world. The Inn aims for a Cape Cod /
New England ambiance, and apparently succeeds.
Here's a map link to the Inn. And here's a link to their official website.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. Couldn't be easier. I just Googled "The Inn at Playa Del Rey", got their website, and compared the screenshot of the hotel (from the DVD) to an actual photo of the Inn.
