This is the guarded gate to the real Pelican Point in the real Orange County
The gate was recreated in Malibu, and was seen for the first time in Episode 1 (season one), "The Pilot".

Above are aerial photos of the entrance to the real Pelican Point gated neighborhood,
on Pelican Point Drive, immediately south of E. Coast Highway, on the Newport Coast.

And directly below is the fake version of the same gate at The O.C.'s "Pelican Cove".
(Note that they copied such details as the red-tile roof, arched windows, and even the spiral topiary trees.)

(They do love the word 'Pelican' in this part of Newport, and these neighborhoods
of red-tile-roofed homes are named Pelican Hill (to the northwest), Pelican Crest
(to the southeast) and Pelican Point (below PCH). But there is no "Pelican Cove".
The gate above really leads to the Pelican Point neighborhood.)

On the show, though, the Cohen house lies just past these Newport gates.
In the real world, the fake gates, like the Cohen house itself, are located miles away, in Malibu.
