This
establishing shot of the real Orange County was first seen on "The
O.C."
in Episode 14
(of season two) - "The Rainy Day Women"
We are
looking southeast, down the Balboa Peninsula, and we can see both
of Newport Beach's two piers.
The one in the foreground is the Newport Pier. The one in the distance
is the Balboa Pier.
(What might appear to be a third pier in the distance is actually
a breakwater.)
You'll find the Newport Pier south of where W. Oceanfront meets W. 21st
Street.
You'll find the Balboa Pier at the south
end of Main Street, south of E. Oceanfront.
(This
photo looks drab because it was supposed to be raining in this episode,
"Rainy Day Women".)
Important:
These "establishing shots" of Orange County are not locations
where The O.C. is actually filmed.
The O.C. is not really filmed in Orange County - it is filmed in
Los Angeles County. These "establishing shots"
are brief aerial snapshots of actual Orange County locations, which the
producers drop into the show to add color and
to help create the illusion that we are seeing the real Orange County.
I have included this list of their "establishing shots"
to supplement the main list of actual filming
locations. You can tell the difference by color: the actual filming
location
pages are gold, while the "establishing shot" pages are blue.

locations where The O.C. is actually filmed,
