This establishing shot of the real Orange County
was first seen on "The O.C." in Episode 20 of Season one: "The Telenova"

We are looking from the Balboa Peninsula out across the Newport harbor,
at the venerable Balboa Ferry as it crosses the bay to Balboa Island.

(This is one of the few 'establishing shots' taken from ground level, rather than from an aircraft.)

The Balboa Ferry, which has been running for almost a century, is a great little
e-ticket ride - and the essence of Newport Beach. The trip lasts for only a couple of minutes,
but affords a wonderful view of the blue waters of the Balboa Bay, filled with pleasure craft,
sea gulls, pelicans and sometimes a seal or two. And the fare is less than a dollar.
You can walk on board, or take your car with you. But if you choose the later,
get out of your car during the trip, stand up and enjoy the view.

The Ferry landing can be found on Edgewater Avenue, on the north side of the peninsula.

Once on Balboa Island, enjoy a stroll down its picturesque coast to Marine Avenue (the
island's commercial street), where you can buy 'Balboa Bars' and frozen bananas.

Important:  These "establishing shots" of Orange County are not locations where The O.C. is actually filmed.
The O.C. is not really filmed in Orange County - it is filmed in Los Angeles County. These "establishing shots"
are brief aerial snapshots of actual Orange County locations, which the producers drop into the show to add color and
to help create the illusion that we are seeing the real Orange County. I have included this list of their "establishing shots"
to supplement the main list of actual filming locations. You can tell the difference by color: the actual filming location
pages are gold, while the "establishing shot" pages are blue.
