Marvel's Agents of SHIELD - Filming Locations: Austin

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

The Southern California locations where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is filmed.

In Episode 5, S.H.I.E.L.D. hunts a hacker who sold S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets to Centipede.

Skye tracks down the source to a cafe in Austin, Texas, and learns that it was
Miles Lydon, an infamous hacker (who just happens to have a history with Skye).

So the S.H.I.E.L.D. team goes to Austin to catch him.

Skye & Ward go looking for Miles, and Ward spots him.

Since the production went to Paris and Stockholm to film earlier scenes, you might assume that they
really shot this scene in Austin, Texas.  Sorry, Lone Staters, but they shot this a lot closer to home:
on streets not far from the studio where they film the show.

This scene was shot at on the streets of Culver City, California, a town famous as the
home of MGM Studios, which, in the Golden Age of Hollywood, bragged that the
studio had "More stars than there are in heaven!"

In fact, the early part of this scene was filmed right next to the historic Culver Hotel,
at 9400 Culver Blvd., where the Munchkins stayed while filming "The Wizard of Oz",
a couple of blocks northwest of the studio (which is now called Sony Studio).

There is a pedestrian-only street running along the south side of the Culver hotel,
and that is where you'll find the rose garden scene in the screencap above with Skye.

Here is a matching StreetView (as seen from Culver Blvd, looking northeast).

The shots of Ward are from the same spot. That sign behind Ward's head in the screencap
above reads "LYFE KITCHEN", which can be found at 9540 Washington Blvd.

Ward chases Miles northeast through that pedestrian street, to a parking lot.

Miles hops in his car and takes off, and he is chased by Coulson through the streets of Austin.

The pursuit actually takes them through the streets of Culver City, mostly on Washington Blvd.

As the chase begins, in the screencap above, they drive right past one of the most well-known
landmarks in the city: the white, colonial Mansion that fronts Culver Studios, at
9336 W. Washington Blvd. It's where they filmed the original "King Kong", as
well as "Citizen Kane" and the 'burning of Atlanta' scene in "Gone With the Wind".

Here's a matching Google StreetView of the mansion.

In the screencap below, where Miles makes a quick turn, he is really turning north
off east-bound Washington Blvd onto north-bound La Cienega Avenue
.

Here's a matching StreetView (but the scenery has changed a
bit since that StreetView was last shot, back in 2011).

Miles then hacks the traffic light system, and causes gridlock at an intersection, allowing him to escape.

That gridlock scene was shot at La Cienega Avenue & Hargis Street,
between Washington Blvd and Venice Blvd, in Culver City,
about two miles northeast of the Culver Hotel.

(To be completely accurate, it's actually two blocks north of the Culver City borderline,
so technically speaking, it's in west Los Angeles.)

In the screencap above, the camera is looking north up La Cienega Ave,
while the car on the left heads east from Hargis street through the intersection.

The white apartment house on the corner is at 2651 La Cienega Ave.
The brown & tan tower behind it is a self-storage place, at 2645 La Cienega Ave.

Here is a matching StreetView, but notice that there are no actual
traffic lights at that intersection.  (More Hollywood "magic".)

Here are Bing maps showing all of these "Austin" locations:
