Part 2
The
Actual Southern California Locations where
the 2009 comedy "I Love You, Man"
was filmed.
Peter then arrives at the restaurant
for his first "date"
with Sydney.
That restaurant is actually
the James Beach Restaurant,
at 60 N. Venice Blvd,
in Venice, CA.
That's on the south side of
Venice Blvd, just west of Pacific Ave, a short stroll from the beach.
We see Peter park on the north
side of Venice Blvd (around 52 Venice); he then
crosses the street to the south side, where he enters the restaurant.
(The restaurant has its own
website at jamesbeach.com.)

In a memorable scene, Peter & Sydney
are out walking a dog along the beach,
when
a guy yells at Sydney for not picking up after his dog. Sydney reacts by
screaming
at the guy like some raving madman, scaring him away.
This scene was shot along Venice's
famous Ocean Front Walk (where a zillion
other
movie and TV scenes have been filmed). To be more precise, the scene was
shot
just north of Paloma Avenue, at approximately
486 Ocean Front Walk.
(The camera is looking south/southeast as the guys walk north/northwest.)
|
Trying to teach Peter to unleash his macho
side, Sydney takes him under a pier and
gets him
to practice yelling at the top of his
lungs - drawing the attention of passers-by on the pier.
This scene was shot under
the Santa Monica Pier (another often-used filming location).
You'll find the famous pier
at the west end of Colorado Ave,
in Santa Monica, CA.
|
Next, we see Sydney's house,
when Peter visits him there.
You'll find this little blue
house at 26 Rose Ave, Venice, CA.
(That's on the south side of street, about four buildings east of the Speedway.)

Later, Sydney meets Peter's
fiance, Zooey, and her friends, at the engagement party,
held at a Chinese restaurant.
He makes a less than favorable impression.
The restaurant shown is Hop Louie,
at 950 Mei Ling Way,
in L.A.'s Chinatown.
|
Next, we see Peter & Sydney
walking through an outdoor shopping center, while Peter
confesses to Sydney about his lack of male friends. Peter agrees to lend
Sydney $8,000
for an unknown project, and then asks him to be his Best Man at the wedding.
This scene was shot at The
Grove, an upscale shopping center located right
next to L.A.'s original Farmers Market,
at 3rd Street & Fairfax,
in Los Angeles.
You can see the Farmers Market
tower behind them as they walk east.
The animated fountains they stop at are located in The Grove's central
park area.
(You can read more about The
Grove here.)
|
The most famous scene in the
movie (seen in all of the trailers) is where Sydney
confronts
Lou ("The Hulk") Ferrigno
at an outdoor cafe. Lou winds up putting Sydney in a sleeper
hold.
This scene was shot at the
DeliZia Cafe, at 2 Rose Ave,
at the southeast
corner of Rose Ave & Ocean Front Walk) in Venice,
CA.
|
After Peter & Sydney
have had a falling out, Peter goes out for a drive and discovers
that Sydney has bought billboards all
over town, touting Peter's real estate business.
In the shot above, we see the
first of those billboards, portraying Peter as 007, "License
To Sell".
That billboard is real, and
is located above Montri Auto Repair, at 1701 Silver Lake Blvd.,
at the tri-corner of Silver Lake Blvd, West Silver Lake Blvd & Effie
Street.
(Of course, it now longer displays
Sydney's 007 message.)
|
The final scenes take place
at the wedding of Peter & Zooey.
It's supposed to be at the
"El Encanto Spa & Resort of Montecito",
near Santa Barbara.
But in fact, the wedding scene
was hundreds of miles to the south, at a
private estate located at 26880 Pacific Coast
Highway, in Malibu,
CA.
The estate is located south
of Pacific Coast Highway and above the beach homes
on Malibu Cove Colony Drive, just west of where PCH meets Sea Vista Drive
-
about four or five miles west of the Malibu Pier and three miles east of
Point Dume.
Known as "La Villa Contenta", the 13-bedroom mansion was recently on sale for $54 million.
If you just want to rent it, that will set you back a cool $350,000 per month.
Beyonce & Jay Z rented it for the summer of 2017. Rianna rented it while making an album.
[ Warning: This
is a private home. Do not trespass on their property, knock
on their door,
or do anything else that might disturb the residents.
