Southern California locations where
"Crazy Stupid Love"
was filmed.
0:01:00: The movie opens with 'Cal Weaver' (Steve Carell) and wife 'Emily' (Julianne Moore)
having dinner at a nice restaurant, when she suddenly tells him that she wants a divorce.
This scene was shot inside the Pinot Bistro restaurant, at 12969 Ventura Blvd, in Studio City, CA.
That, like most of the locations in this movie, is in the L.A.'s San Fernando Valley,
on the north side of Ventura Blvd, just west of Coldwater Canyon Ave.
(Alas, Pinot Bistro closed its doors in early 2012.)

0:03:00: On their drive home, Cal is in total shock. Sitting motionless in the car, while his
wife continues to talk about the marriage being a failure. He begs her to stop talking
about it, but she continues, adding that she slept with another man, 'David Lindhagen'.
At that moment, Cal can't take it any more. In a daze, he opens his car door and
(while the car is still moving) simply topples out onto the street.
That scene was filmed with their car heading west on Valley Vista Blvd., in Sherman Oaks.
He rolls out the door just before they reach Benedict Canyon Blvd. Afterward, she stops the
car at the corner of Benedict Blvd & Valley Vista (facing west), and gets out to help.
He is lying in the street in front of a house at 13707 Valley Vista Blvd.
(That location is less than a mile west of the restaurant they just left.)

0:06:00: We then see 'Hannah' (Emma Stone) and her friend talking in a nice-looking bar,
when she is approached by 'Jacob' (Ryan Gosling), a pick-up artist who hits on her.
Her friend is dazzled, but Hannah insists that she is not interested.
This same bar shows up many times in the movie, as Jacob's home turf,
as the spot where he & Cal meet, and as an eventual hangout for Cal.
Unfortunately, the bar is fake.
It was only a set, created on Stage 19 at Warner Bros. studio, in Burbank.
They even gave the bar a name: Plus+
You can see the sound stage if you take the Warner Bros. VIP tour, but the set won't be there.
(Usually, I wouldn't bother reporting on a set, but this particular location appears
so many times in the movie, that I didn't think it would be wise to just ignore it.)
0:10:49: Cal drives 'Jessica' (the Weavers' babysitter) home, and drops her off in front of her house.
It turns out that young Jessica has an unrequited crush on the much older Cal.
They painted a fake street number on the curb: 2112, temporarily leading me on a wild goose.
But I eventually found the house at a different address: 2564 Boulder Road, in Altadena, CA,
less than a mile northwest of Cal's home.
It's on the east side of the street, a few houses south of Altadena Drive.
The city of Altadena is just north of Pasadena (home of the annual Rose Parade).

0:14:07: The Weavers' family home. This is where Cal lived before his wife asked for a divorce, and
where his wife & kids still live. It's also the scene of a back yard fight near the end of the movie.
You'll find this house at 2002 Minoru Drive, in Altadena, just a short drive from the babysitter's house.

We mostly see only the back yard and the back of the house (since the front is mostly
obscured by trees), but we finally get a decent view of the front late in the movie:
0:22:43: Next, we see Hannah dining out at a Mexican restaurant with a group of her friends.
It's Hannah's goodbye party, before she starts cramming to pass the bar exam.
Her boring boyfriend announces that when she passes it, they will have another celebration at the
same restaurant, and it will be a "special night". Hanna assumes he intends to propose to her.
Later, we see the restaurant again (at 1:02:40), when Hannah finds out that he didn't plan
to propose, that he simply meant to offer her a job at his law firm.
They filmed these scenes at the El Torito Grill in the Sherman Oaks Galleria.
The mall is located at the northwest corner of Ventura & Sepulveda, in Sherman Oaks.
They also shot "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" at the Galleria. But if you haven't been back
since then, you'd be in for a shock. They more or less tore down the old mall and built
a new, smaller center. The old food court, featured in that 1982 classic, is long gone.
