Filming Locations of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"

Part 1

The actual locations where the 2015 movie
"Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"
was filmed.

At the start of the film, we see the family car pull up to the Cooper's picture-perfect home,
on a shady, tree-lined street in some ideal suburban neighborhood.

This house is actually located at 1037 Buena Vista Street, in South Pasadena, CA.

That's just north of the Pasadena (110) Freeway,
where Buena Vista Street meets Fairview Ave.

Here is a matching  Google StreetView of the house.

[ Warning: This is a private home.  Do not trespass on their property,
knock on their door, or do anything that might disturb the residents.]

This movie filmed a lot on Buena Vista Street, including the early scenes of the battered
family driving home, and the kangaroo-chase scenes later in the movie.

In the shot below, their car is heading east on Buena Vista:

In the chase scene below, Dad and the kangaroo are running
west down the middle of the 900 block of Buena Vista Street.

The long hedge that the kangaroo (and Dad) jump over is between 918 & 928 Buena Vista Street.
(The driveway they run up appears to be on the 918 side.)

That's on the north side of the street (while the family home is on the south side.)

Here is a matching Google StreetView of that hedge.

0:06:35: The high school attended by the older brother, Anthony... actually the John Marshall Fundamental Secondary School,
at 990 Allen Avenue, in Pasadena, CA.

That's about two miles northeast of the family home.

Here is a matching Google StreetView of the school.

It gets a bit more complicated when it comes to Alexander's middle school.

They actually used two different schools for it, and (get this) one of them
was also named John Marshall, but it wasn't the same John Marshall school...

0:13:55The school's main exterior, seen above, is actually
George Ellery Hale Middle School, at 23830 Califa Street, in Woodland HillsCA.

It's one of the few times the production left the Pasadena area.  And this time
they went a long way.  Woodland Hills is at the west end of the
San Fernando Valley, a good 30 miles west of Pasadena.

Here is a Google StreetView of that school.

But in other scenes of Alexander's school, including his first arrival there (at 0:07:30),
they used a completely different school:

 John Marshall Middle School,
at 5870 E. Wardlow Road, in Long Beach, CA.

But don't confuse this John Marshall in Long Beach with the other John Marshall, in Pasadena.
They're two separate schools, a good 30 miles south apart.

Here is a matching  Google StreetView of that school.
