location: Quinn's Apartment Building
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. An apartment
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. Somewhere in Miami.
Q. When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 6 (of Season 4), "Dirty Harry".
It is the apartment of Detective Joey Quinn, Debra's partner on the Miami Metro police force.
We first see a glimpse of the exterior, then we see inside the apartment, where Quinn and Christine are having a conversation. As Trinity's daughter, she's trying to get information out of him about the "Vacation Murders", and wants him to set up an interview with Debra.
He tells her no, but the scantily-clad Christine isn't about to take no for an answer. As she's about to make a move on him, Quinn gets a phone call.
It's from Debra, and she's sitting outside his apartment, on a low wall.
goes out to talk to Debra (while Christine watches from the window), and
she tells him that she wants to be an eye witness on the Lundy
see the apartment house again in Episode 10 ("Lost Boys"),
but it's just a brief glimpse of the exterior, before heading inside for
a conversation between Christine & Quinn - who's beginning to
suspect her. (Chances are this shot was just a re-use of the original
footage from episode 6.)
Q. What is it actually in real life?
A. An apartment building - just not in Miami.
Q. Where can I find it in real life?
A. It's at 3515 E. 1st Street, in the Bluff Park section of Long Beach, CA.
That's on the north side of 1st Street, just three houses west of Loma Ave.
It's just one block east of Dexter & Rita's house (which is also on 1st Street).
apartment building is actually white. They painted it a bright yellow
for the show, and they painted the low wall blue (no doubt, to make
it look more like Miami.)

Warning: These are private apartments. Do not
trespass on their property, knock on their doors,
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
was a contribution from Dexter fan Julie,
who reports driving past the location while they were painting the building
yellow. (Thanks, Julie!)
