The location: Quinn spies on the FBI |
Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. This scene was shot at a strip mall at 6000 Fountain Ave, at the southwest corner of Fountain Avenue & Gordon Street, in Hollywood, CA. That's right across the street (south of) the Sunset-Gower studio, where Dexter is filmed, so they use this location a lot. For this scene, they added a walk-up food counter in front of the market, as well as the tables (where the FBI agent is eating) and a few palm trees. The run down strip mall normally houses a market and an upholstery store (that was used as the tailor shop in Season 3). They had already used it once this season, in the scene where Debra picked up photos for Rita's funeral. It was also used as The Swamp bar, in Season 2, where Dexter stalked the man who killed his mother. And in Season 4, it was the corner where Nikki saw the newspaper headline about her boyfriend. It's also close
to several other Dexter locations, including Boyd
Fowler's house, the cafe where Dexter
& Rita had their first date, Teegan's
house, Wendell Owens' house,
the hooker motel, the street where
Trinity walked the dog. I shot this photo of the strip mall (looking southwest) in 2009.
Here is an aerial
photo of the strip mall. And here is a map
link. Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. This
was an easy one. I have written multiple pages about this little strip
mall in previous seasons, and photographed it in person, so I simply recognized
it on sight.
