Dexter Filming Locations: Quinn spies on the FBI

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Quinn spies on the FBI

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A market & café.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 4, of Season 5, "Beauty And The Beast".

Quinn has begun to suspect that Dexter was somehow involved with the Trinity Killer, and his suspicions are magnified when artists' renderings of 'Kyle Butler' resemble Dexter.

But his investigation is going nowhere, fast. No one at the police station wants to even consider any evidence against Dexter, especially when he is grieving his murdered wife.

To try to check it out on his own, Quinn hopes to talk to Trinity's son, Jonah Mitchell. But the FBI is keeping him hidden in a safe house (since they don't know his serial killer father is dead).

So, in this scene, we see an FBI agent sitting outside a market, enjoying a meal, when Quinn phones him.  Apparently he's an old friend, and Quinn asks for help in contacting Jonah - but the agent won't reveal his whereabouts.

As the agent gets up to leave, we see that Quinn is sitting across the street (from the market) in a car, watching him.

As the FBI agent get into his car and drives off, Quinn follows him back to the safe house, where he spots Jonah Mitchell through the front window.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A market/cafe at a strip mall.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This scene was shot at a strip mall at 6000 Fountain Ave, at the southwest corner of Fountain Avenue & Gordon Street, in Hollywood, CA.

That's right across the street (south of) the Sunset-Gower studio, where Dexter is filmed, so they use this location a lot.

For this scene, they added a walk-up food counter in front of the market, as well as the tables (where the FBI agent is eating) and a few palm trees.

The run down strip mall normally houses a market and an upholstery store (that was used as the tailor shop in Season 3).

They had already used it once this season, in the scene where Debra picked up photos for Rita's funeral.

It was also used as The Swamp bar, in Season 2, where Dexter stalked the man who killed his mother.

And in Season 4, it was the corner where Nikki saw the newspaper headline about her boyfriend.

It's also close to several other Dexter locations, including Boyd Fowler's house, the cafe where Dexter & Rita had their first date, Teegan's house, Wendell Owens' house, the hooker motel, the street where Trinity walked the dog.

I shot this photo of the strip mall (looking southwest) in 2009.

Here is an aerial photo of the strip mall. And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  This was an easy one. I have written multiple pages about this little strip mall in previous seasons, and photographed it in person, so I simply recognized it on sight.
