The
location: Pulled Over by Female Cop |
![]() A. A street
corner in a residential area.
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. Somewhere
in Miami.
Q. When did we see it on the show? A. Just once, in Episode 4 (of Season 4), "Dex Takes a Holiday". Dexter has been
stalking a female cop named When he visits her home during an open house, posing as a potential buyer, she meets him. In this scene, Dexter is driving down the street, when he spots the flashing lights of a patrol car in his rear-view mirror. He pulls over, and is shocked when the cop who walks up to his car's window is none other than Zoe Kruger. Her friends
at the police department tipped her to the fact that a blood spatter expert
was nosing around her old case, and when she saw Dexter's photo, she recognized
him as the guy she met She tries to intimidate Dexter by making him get out of the car, submit to a standing search, and then confronts him with the fact that she knows what he's doing. She mixes two different approaches: an appeal for sympathy for a grieving mother (despite the fact that they both know she murdered her own child), and thinly veiled threats to back off or else. Then she leaves. But, of course,
Dexter doesn't intimidate that easily, and when he doesn't back off, it
leads to a later confrontation at a gas station.
Q. What is it actually in real life? A. Two street corners in two residential areas.
Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. This scene is actually a mashup of two different locations. The first part is when Dexter is driving, sees the cop car behind him, and makes a right turn to pull over. That part was shot in the posh Hancock Park area of west Los Angeles, near the Wilshire Country Club. He is driving west on Beverly Blvd, and when he sees the cop car, he turns right (north) from Beverly Blvd onto June Street. But the moment Dexter makes that right turn, they abruptly switch locations. The actual pull-over/parked scene, where Dexter stops his car and is confronted by Zoe Kruger, was shot 2 miles away, at the northwest corner of N. El Centro Avenue & Afton Place in a far less affluent part of Hollywood. Dexter stops his car on the north side of Afton Place, just west of El Centro. (That's just one block west of the Sunset Gower studio, where "Dexter" is filmed.)
Here is a google StreetView Panorama of the corner where he starts to turn right:
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. I was able to figure out the first part of the scene early on (the street where Dexter is driving). A street sign reading "Beverly" is visible in the background just before he's pulled over. So I simply looked at Beverly Blvd until I found the matching background, and was able to determine that he was heading west on Beverly and turned right at June Street. So naturally, I expected the location where he parked to be on June Street in Hancock Park. It wasn't. I searched all over Hancock Park for the homes seen in the background of that scene, but to no avail. Then I switched to Long Beach, with no results there either . Finally, in
June of 2010, Geoff finally tracked
it down and let me know. (Thanks, Geoff!)
