Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 7, of Season 6, "Nebraska".
This corn field is right across from the Shady Lane Motel, where Dexter stops, after getting a flat time before he reaches Kearney.
Dexter (and Brian) cut through the field when they leave the motel and walk into town.
While
walking through the corn field, then chance upon marijuana plants
hidden in the corn field (the work of the motel owner, Norm).
The corn field is seen again later in the same episode, after Dexter has killed Norm, when he dumps his body down a silo.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This corn field is located less than half a mile east of the Nebraska motel, in Piru, CA. And about six miles west of the market.
It's about 10 miles west of Six Flags Magic Mountain, in Ventura County.
I can't seem to get a street address on this one from online sources. But I can describe where it is in Piru.
The corn field is bordered by Camino del Rio on its south side, and it is approximately 1000 feet south of E. Telegraph Road (California 126).
For what it's worth, the latitude-longitude seems to be 34.404289, -118.725171
Some of the nearby land is owned
by the Newhall Land & Farming Co, so perhaps this corn field is,
too. But I'm not sure.

Better yet, here is an aerial
photo of the actual corn field. And here is a map
link.
I'm told that some of the Nebraska driving scenes were also shot on Camino del Rio, near the corn field.
And some night scenes (possibly those of Dexter dumping Norm's body in the silo) were shot along Sunset Valley Drive, in Moorpark, CA, between Tierra Rejada Road & Read Road. Map link.
(That's the same stretch of road where they filmed a brief driving shot, at 29:27, of Dexter & Rudy driving past horses.)
( On the other hand, that picturesque silo appears to have been fake: a model CGI'ed into the scene, added in post-production. )
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. In previous seasons, I've
usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the 6th season, though,
I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode aired, I
already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct
locations.
This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Ellen, Susan, Jason,
Elaine, Joel, Julie, Geoff, Jeff, Jen, and others. My thanks to all of
them.
Rick told
me about this one, which is one of those needle-in-the-haystack
locations that could have been a nightmare to try to track down on my
own. (Thanks, Rick!)
