Q. What is it supposed to be on the show? A. An apartment house. Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. Somewhere in Miami. Q. When did we see it on the show? A. In Episode 4, of Season 5, "Beauty And The Beast". Dexter has hired an Irish nanny, Sonya, to care for his baby son, Harrison, now that Rita is dead. However, due to his extensive moonlighting, Dexter manages to screw things up. He stays out all night, prompting the angry nanny to call him "irresponsible" and quit. In this scene, he is trying to convince her to come back to the job.  He shows up at her apartment, with baby Harrison in tow. She is hesitant, but the baby charms her, and she reluctantly agrees to give them one more chance. Q. What is it actually in real life? A. An actual apartment house - just not in Miami. Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. This apartment house can be found right across the street from (east of) the Sunset-Gower studio where Dexter is filmed. The address is 1422 Gordon Street, in Hollywood.

That's between Sunset Blvd and Fountain Ave, just five houses south of Boyd Fowler's house.


They have filmed at many of the homes and apartment buildings on Gordon, and at some of them, more than once. This is one such example. This same address was used as Sgt. Doakes' apartment, in Season One.

It's also close to several other Dexter locations, including Teegan's house, Lumen's motel, the First Date Cafe, Wendell Owens' house, the the street where Trinity walked the dog, and the strip mall where Debra picks up the photos for the funeral.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A.  In previous seasons, I've usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes, using clues from the various scenes.  By the 5th season, though, I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know in advance when something was about to film there.

Between those reports, and my own personal reconnaissance around town, by the time the first episode aired, I already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct locations.

This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Joel, Geoff, Ellen, Julie, Susan, Jeff, and others. My thanks to all of them.
