Dexter Filming Locations: Lumen's Motel

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Lumen's Motel

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. The Towne House Motel.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. 17282 W. 7th Street, in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 4, of Season 5, "Beauty And The Beast".

Dexter is searching the Net for information about Lumen Pierce, the desperate woman he saved from Boyd Fowler.

He is temporarily holding her captive at a cabin, (an old Tourist Welcome Center), since she witnessed him killing Boyd.

He can't afford to let her go and risk that she might tell the police. So he's trying to find out more about her, to figure out what to do with her.

Dexter discovers that she has an unpaid bill at the Towne House Motel.

So he goes to the motel, and talks to the clerk at the desk.

She complains that Lumen left without paying the bill, so Dexter pays it, and in return he gets a box of Lumen's possessions.

He reads a letter in the box, from her family, begging her to come home.

Back at the cabin, Dexter gives that letter to Lumen (whom he is still holding captive), and she weeps when she reads it.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. An actual motel.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. They changed the motel's address, but not its name.

In real life, this really is called the Town House Motel.

But it's full name is the Hollywood Town House Motel, and instead of 7th Street in Miami, you'll find it at 6055 W. Sunset Blvd, in Hollywood, CA.

That's almost across the street from the Sunset-Gower studio, where they film Dexter.

This is the exact same motel used in Season 3 as the hooker motel where Angel goes to talk to Detective Barbara Gianna while she's working vice.

Although the motel's front office faces Sunset, we first see its parking lot, on the west side of La Baig Ave, just north of Sunset Blvd. Then Dexter walks south from his car to the office.

It's right around the corner from another location, the home of Wendell Owens (from Season 3), and the street where Trinity walked the dog (from Season 4).

It's also a few blocks northwest of Ramon Prado's house.
And it's less than half a mile from the strip mall where Quinn spied on the FBI, and where
Debra picks up the photos for the funeral.

Here is a photo of the motel, which I shot in 2009:

Here is an aerial photo of the motel. And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  This was an easy one. I already did a page about this location. It's the same motel where Angel talked to Detective Gianna, while she was working vice (back in Season 3).  So I recognized it immediately.
