Dexter Filming Locations: Lumen Meets Liddy

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Lumen runs into Liddy

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A parking lot.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Next to a shopping center at 4th & Bay, in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 8, of Season 5, "Take It".

Quinn, still suspicious of Dexter, has hired corrupt cop Stan Liddy to snoop into Dexter's life.

When Liddy finds out that Dexter has moved Lumen into his house, he wants to find out more about the girl.

So he uses an old P.I. trick, and stages a fender bender accident in a parking lot, so he can talk to Lumen and check her ID.

In this scene, she has just finished shopping for the items Dexter will need to build his kill room (such as 3-mil. plastic sheeting), and is getting into her car to leave.

She backs up and smashes right into Liddy's car (something Liddy has intentionally staged).

Liddy gets out and feigns outrage, yelling and demanding to see her drivers license.

She offers him cash, but he refuses, threatening to call the cops if she doesn't show him her insurance info.

Since she can't risk meeting the police, Lumen shows him her ID.

Along the way, Liddy spots the plastic sheeting in the back of her car...

Later, Liddy explains it to Quinn, saying she was scheduled to be married in Minnesota, then disappeared, and showed up in Miami a week before Rita was killed.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A parking lot.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This scene was shot in the parking lot of Fisherman's Village, at 13755 Fiji Way, in Marina del Rey.

Fisherman's Village is a tourist attraction, a themed shopping-dining village located right on the water's edge at L.A.'s biggest marina (It's not unlike Ports O'Call Village in San Pedro, but it's in better shape.)

It's the same village where they filmed the scene of Lumen meeting her ex-boyfriend, Owen at a cafe.
, and the shot of Liddy holding a camera (at the end of the episode).

In fact, this particular spot in the parking lot is about 100 yards north/northeast of the restaurant where they filmed that scene with Owen, about half-way between the restaurant and the Village's mock lighthouse.

Here is a matching photo I shot at the Village in November 2010:

    (The camera is looking southwest.)

Here is an aerial photo of the spot. And here is a map link.

Elsewhere in Marina del Rey, they filmed (among other things) the hotel where Dexter attended the Jordan Chase seminar, the scene of Dexter in the park with baby Harrison, the wedding of Dexter & Rita, the shopping trip with Miguel Prado, Lundy & Debra getting shot, and the bloody hotel from the first season.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  I've been to Fisherman's Village often, so this was an easy one to recognize.

But I also got a heads-up from Rick about the location, as well. (Thanks, Rick!)
