Dexter Filming Locations: Liddy shoot photos of Dexter & Lumen

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Liddy Shoots Photos of Dexter

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A parking lot.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Near a marina in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 8, of Season 5, "Take It".

Stan Liddy is still stalking Dexter & Lumen, trying to find out what they're up to.

Just before this shot, Lumen & Dexter are seen dumping the body parts of Cole Harmon into the ocean, from Dexter's boat, the Slice of Life.

In this very brief night scene, at the very end of Episode 8, we see Liddy standing alone, holding a camera with a long telephoto lens.

The shot zooms in to show the digital photos Liddy has taken, and they are of Dexter & Lumen on the marina dock, loading the luggage (containing Cole's body parts) onto the boat.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A parking lot.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This scene was shot in the parking lot of Fisherman's Village, at 13755 Fiji Way, in Marina del Rey.

To be more specific, it was shot in the parking lot at the far north end of the Village, about ten parking spaces north of the Village's last building (an El Torito restaurant).

That narrow parking lot borders the marina channel. Liddy was standing near a chain link fence that separates the walkway from that channel.

I believe that the photos of Lumen & Dexter seen on Liddy's camera were actually shot nearby, at a marina dock just north of Shanghai Red's restaurant (where they filmed the earlier cafe scene of Lumen and Owen).  But I'm not 100% positive of about that.

Fisherman's Village is a tourist attraction, a themed shopping-dining village located right on the water's edge at L.A.'s biggest marina (It's not unlike Ports O'Call Village in San Pedro, but it's in better shape.)

It's the same village where they filmed the scenes of Lumen meeting her ex-fiance Owen at a cafe.
, and the scene of Liddy staging an accident with Lumen.

It's also just a short drive from the hotel where Dexter attended the Jordan Chase seminar.

Here is a matching photo I shot at the Village in November 2010:

    note the cracked pavement...

    (The camera is looking southwest.)

Here is an aerial photo of the spot. And here is a map link.

Elsewhere in Marina del Rey, they filmed (among other things) the hotel where Dexter attended the Jordan Chase seminar, the scene of Dexter in the park with baby Harrison, the wedding of Dexter & Rita, the shopping trip with Miguel Prado, Lundy & Debra getting shot, and the bloody hotel from the first season.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  I knew that they had shot the other scenes in this episode at Fisherman's Village, and I recognized the chain-link fence that runs by the channel at the Village. Given the lack of nearby shops, I assumed it was probably shot at the north end of the Village. The only challenge was to pinpoint the exact spot.

Fortunately, that was fairly easy, because in the scene, you can see a large crack in the walkway pavement, running from the corner of (what looks like) a manhole cover to the fence. So I simply went to the Village, drove to the north end, and looked for that crack. And sure enough, there it was.
