Dexter Filming Locations: The House by the Park

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: The House by the Park

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A residential home.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Across from a park, in a rough part of Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 2, of Season 5, "Hello Bandit".

In the previous episode, the police found a woman's head in a public park.

Quinn thought the decapitation was the work of drug dealers, but the new local girl, Sierra, thought it the work of the Santa Muerte cult

In this scene, we see Debra and Quinn going door to door, trying to get the Venezuelan neighbors to talk about the crime.

We first see them speaking to a woman in a house across from the park. She is obviously reluctant to say anything - not surprising, since Sierra had warned that the decapitation was probably a message not to talk to the cops.

As Debra and Quinn leave the house, they get into an argument about their sex life (or lack of same).

But that's interrupted by Angel, who walks up and says that no one will talk to him because it's a Venezuelan neighborhood and he's Cuban.

The park's community center (with the mural) is seen in the background as the trio talk to each other on the street.

Debra mentions that Sierra thinks they were religious cult murders. Angel says she might be onto something.

Debra, who doesn't speak Spanish, embarrasses herself my mispronouncing "Santa Muerte" as "Santa Mierda".

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A residential house, across from a park - just not in Miami.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. The house is located at 922 Park Circle, in Long Beach, CA.

That's right across the street from Drake Park (located at 951 Maine Ave), where they filmed the scene of the head found in the park.

The community center building, with its colorful mural, is visible in the background of the scene.

They put up a fake street sign reading "Finnigan's Way".

The house is also next door to the suicide house, (where the headless victim's husband died), just a few blocks west of the botanica, and not far from where Dexter rented the moving van.

I shot these photos in October 2010:

[ Warning: This is a private home.  Do not trespass on their property, knock on their door,
or do anything else that might disturb the residents.

The photo below shows the mural on the side of the park's community center:

Here is an aerial photo of the house. And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  This was easy.  I had already found the park (where the head was found), and that park is visible in the scene.  It was obvious that the house was right across the street. But to make it even easier, the house numbers are visible as Debra and Quinn leave the porch.
