Dexter Filming Locations: Issak attacks Dexter at the Donut Shop
The
location: Donut Shop Attack
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. Sadie's Donuts
& Coffee shop.
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. Somewhere in Miami.
( In this scene, Dexter's GPS map shows it as near Freedom Tower, at Miami Dade College, which is at 600 Biscayne Blvd, Miami. But actually, the nearest Miami donut shop is over a mile from that spot. )
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 8, of Season 7, "Argentina".
Dexter is in his familiar donut shop, buying donuts and having one of his imaginary conversations with Harry. He thinks he's safe, because he believes the police are keeping Isaak in sight and tracking his GPS location.
What he doesn't know is that Isaak used a decoy to get the police to follow the wrong car - while he goes after Dexter.
Dexter's phone rings, and as he reaches for it, his ke
The shop owner comes out, and remarks that it was probably a gang shooting.
Outside
of the shop, in his car, Dexter gets a call about Rita's kids coming to
town. He begins to phone Jamie to pick them up in Orlando.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
A. A donut shop - just not in Miami.
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This is Broadway Donuts, which can be found at 1200 E. Broadway, in Long Beach.
That's just east of downtown L.B., at the southeast corner of Broadway & Orange Ave.
In the scene, Isaak's car is heading south on Orange Ave, on the west side of the donut shop. He fires his gun east into the donut shop.
Dexter has been going to Sadie's Donuts since the show started (buying donuts for his co-workers), but the actual filming location of that donut shop has moved around a lot.
Back in the 3rd season, they shot at a rival Long Beach donut shop, at 4th & Pacific, for ascene involving Miguel Prado.
In the 6th season, they stuck close to home, and filmed their donut shop scenes at a strip mall across from the studio, on Fountain Ave.
Plus, there was another donut shop (not Sadie's), featuring a giant donut outside, seen in a 3rd season scene where Debra was tailing Miguel's brother.
A. In the early seasons, I usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the now, though,
I've developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode airs, I
already know most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
need to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct
locations.
This group of helpful fans includes Rick, Ellen, Elaine, Mia, Joel, Susan, Eric, Jeff, Kerry & others. My thanks to all of
them.
