DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.


The location: Dexter Beats Up Barry
Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. The parking lot of the Roadside café.


Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.


Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 9, of Season 5, "Teenage Wasteland".

    After Astor and  and her friend Olivia get caught shoplifting, Dexter tells Barry (the man who lives with Olivia's mother) to meet him outside the Roadside Cafe.

    Dexter finds out that Barry has been beating Olivia, leaving ugly bruises concealed under her clothes. Dexter becomes determined to put an end to that.

    So, in this scene, we see Barry waiting in the parking lot, at night, as Dexter drives in.

    Pretending to just want to talk, Dexter lures Barry into an alley by the diner, and proceeds to beat the hell out him, pummeling him about the waist, while describing in detail the anatomical/medical effects of each blow.

    When he's finished, Dexter tells Barry to call Olivia's mother and break up with her, and to not return to the house.

    In a later scene, where Olivia returns to her home, we learn that Barry indeed took Dexter's "advice", and broke up with her mother. Olivia is understandably happy about this development.


Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A restaurant - but not in Miami.



Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This is the Long Beach Cafe, at 615 E. Ocean Blvd, in Long Beach, CA.

    The alley where Dexter beats up Barry is on the north side of the restaurant, with the camera looking west.

    That's just west of the corner of Ocean Blvd & Alamitos Avenue, where you'll find the gas station where Barry is busted by the cops in an earlier scene.

    And it's just a short ways from the bar where Angel got into a fight, the moving van rental place, and the sting motel where Angel thought Maria was cheating on him.

    Also, it's about a third of a mile east of the tower that houses Jordan Chase's 24th floor offices.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  I knew they were filming in this part of Long Beach, so I drove down to take a look.

    I found them using a crane to set up for the shoot in front of the Long Beach café.

    Although it isn't really visible in the scene itself, they changed the neon sign over the front cafe's door, to read "Roadside Cafe".  The sign also included what appeared to be the silhouette of a road runner...
