Dexter Filming Locations: The Dead Couple's House

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: The Dead Couple's House

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A residential house.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. We first see it in Episode 11, of Season 6, "Talk to the Hand".

We only see the interior in Episode 11.  Travis, now being sought by the police, hides out at this house, after fleeing Steve Dorsey's apartment.

We first see him in the home, with the owners' cat wandering about.  He is watching the TV news, a report about his poison gas attack on Miami Metro.

Travis becomes upset when he learns that the attack failed, and that only Beth Dorsey (his disciple) died in the botched attack.

He says that it's up to him now, and begins sketching the outline of a new painting on the living room wall.

The camera pulls back to show the bloody bodies of an older couple, lying face down on the floor - obviously victims of Travis.

We see the house again, later in the same episode when we see Travis finishing the painting on the wall, which is a portrait of Satan with seven heads.

The TV news reports the story about the angel statue at Museum Square, which Dexter has defaced.

Travis then gets a video message on his phone, from Dexter, where Dexter refers to himself as "The Beast", in an effort to goad Travis into coming after him.

We then see him replace Satan's face with Dexter's face, in his wall painting.

In the season finale, Episode 12 ("This is the Way the World Ends"), we see the home's exterior, as the police arrive at the house (as a crime scene), and discover the two dead bodies.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A residential house - just not in Florida.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This is 1146 N. Beachwood, in Hollywood, CA.

It's on the east side of the street, just south of Lexington Avenue.

It's just around the corner from Steve Dorsey's apartment, and about half a block from Nick's house.

That's just one block south of the Sunset-Gower studio where they make Dexter, and the same distance from the donut shop.

Also, it's just a block north of Hollywood Forever Memorial Park, where they shot the scenes of Rita's funeral.

Rick shot the photo below, just before the Sept. 29, 2011 filming:

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  In previous seasons, I've usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes, using clues from the various scenes.  By the 6th season, though, I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know in advance when something was about to film there.

Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode aired, I already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct locations.

This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Ellen, Susan, Jason, Elaine, Joel, Julie, Geoff, Jeff, Jen, and others. My thanks to all of them.

This time Rick sent me photos of the house he had shot just before filming began (along with photos of the nearby Dorsey's apartment).  He also sent a photo of the filming notice, detailing what kind of shoot was taking place there.  (Thanks, Rick!)
