Dexter Filming Locations: Dexter at Park with baby Harrison.

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Dexter at Park with baby Harrison.

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A park by a marina.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. Twice in Episode 5, of Season 5, "First Blood".

We first see Dexter helping to spread out a large, rainbow-colored blanket. He is with a group of mothers and their babies in a park, and he has brought his own baby son, Harrison, to play with the other kids.

When one of the children starts crying, Dexter notices a small scratch on its cheek, which reminds him of the cuts he makes during his killing rituals.

Clearly, Dexter is still worried about his son growing up to be like him, after witnessing his mother's death.

As the scratched infant points an accusing finger at Harrison, and the mothers frown, Dexter scoops up his son and beats a hasty retreat.

The second short scene, at the end of the episode, has Dexter back at the park.

As he walks past two women (with babies of their own) he hears one comment "Did you read about what happened to his mother?", to which the other woman replies "That boy will never be the same."

Dexter, carrying Harrison, passes them, and says "There's nothing wrong with my son."

As Dexter puts Harrison into his car seat, he apologizes for ever thinking the worst about him. Just then, the baby reaches up and scratches his father's face.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A park by a marina.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This scene was shot at Burton Chase Park, in Marina Del Rey, the same place where they filmed Dexter & Rita's wedding, at the end of Season 3.

In fact, that white latticed gazebo is probably the same one they used for the wedding scene.

You'll find this unique park at the west end of Mindanao Way (13650 Mindanao, to be exact), a grassy peninsula surrounded on three sides by boats & water.

Besides the wedding scene, they have also filmed several other scenes at the park, including the scene of Debra and Quinn busting the Skinner's assistant (from season 3)  And nearby in Marina del Rey, they filmed the bloody hotel scene (from season 1), the Narcotics Anonymous meeting place and Lila's coffee shop (from season 2), the boating store where Dexter and Prado went shopping (from season 3), the police station exterior, the pharmacy Dexter searched, the used car lot, Trinity stalking a woman, and Lundy getting shot in the parking lot (from season 4)

I shot these photos of Burton Chase Park in 2009.

Here is an aerial photo of the park. And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  This was an easy one. I discovered Burton Chase Park years ago, and was just there last year to photograph the gazebo where they filmed Dexter & Rita's wedding. So I simply recognized it.
